About the Role
- As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will lead the design and development of embedded firmware (drivers, RTOS, hardware interaction) and software APIs that enable reliable integration with application software and external systems for ADI’s advanced products. You will work independently on complex problems, influence software architecture, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring scalable, high-quality software solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Firmware Development
- Design, develop, and maintain production-quality embedded firmware for microcontroller- and SoC-based systems
- Own low-level software components including boot code, device drivers, RTOS integration, and hardware abstraction layers (HAL)
- Debug & root-cause system-level issues involving hardware–software interaction and optimize firmware for performance, memory, power, and real-time constraints
API & Interface Development
- Design and implement robust, well-documented APIs exposing firmware capabilities to higher software layers
- Define clear software interfaces and contracts to ensure modularity, reusability, backward compatibility, scalability and long-term maintainability
- Design, develop, and maintain automated tests using NUnit for API validation at both unit level and system level, ensuring functional correctness, robustness, and regression coverage across firmware–software interfaces
- Technical Leadership & Ownership
- Own software modules or subsystems end-to-end, from requirements analysis through design, implementation, validation, and maintenance
- Drive solutions for complex and ambiguous software problems with minimal supervision
- Review and influence software architecture and design decisions across firmware and API layers
- Lead and actively participate in code reviews and design discussions, raising overall engineering quality
Generative AI & Modern Development Practices
- Use Generative AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot‑style assistants) to improve productivity and software quality in firmware and API development
- Apply AI tools for code generation, refactoring, documentation drafting, test scaffolding, and design exploration
- Critically review and validate AI-generated outputs to ensure correctness, safety, performance, and compliance with coding standards
- Champion responsible and secure AI tool usage aligned with organizational guidelines and Willingness to continuously adapt development workflows as AI tooling evolves
Collaboration & Mentorship
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in firmware design, API development, and modern development practices
- Contribute to and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and API references
- Collaborate with Applications, System Design, Digital Design and Validation teams
