CMT is looking for a collaborative, customer-committed, and creative Senior Embedded Software Engineer who wants to join us in making roads safer by making drivers better!
Responsibilities:
- Develop embedded software for microcontroller-based sensor hardware, ensuring efficient utilization of limited memory and processing capabilities
- Implement data collection from various sensors, such as accelerometers and GPS, ensuring accurate and efficient data handling
- Design and maintain communication protocols to interface with back-end systems and nearby devices
- Execute and manage over-the-air firmware upgrades, ensuring systems are up-to-date and secure
- Develop and maintain cryptographically-secured storage solutions to protect sensitive data
- Optimize power consumption to extend battery life in low-power IoT devices
- Collaborate with the firmware group to design software architectures, write and review code, and develop tests to ensure software reliability and performance
- Measure and analyze key performance metrics, such as power usage, to continuously improve product efficiency
- Maintain a healthy codebase, managing complexity to ensure scalability and maintainability
- Participate in the full design process, collaborating with product managers and hardware engineers to align technical capabilities with customer requirements
- Complete any additional tasks as they arise
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience and/or certification in a related field
- 4+ years of relevant work experience
- Absolute fluency in C and Python programming
- Able to visualize the product in a system and make tradeoffs that include implications upstream and downstream
- Strong experience with systems software issues – e.g., race conditions, memory management
- Experience working at the boundary of hardware and software – e.g., interrupt handling, device driver development, bringing up untested hardware
- Comfortable with the Linux command-line
- Comfortable with git
- Track record of writing clean, readable, testable code
Nice-to-haves:
- Past experience with bare-metal programming on ARM Cortex M CPUs
- Know your way around an oscilloscope and how to read a hardware schematic
- Experience with wireless tech, including Bluetooth, LTE, LoRa and others
- Familiarity with AWS
- Knowledge of networking, messaging protocols, and end-to-end encryption
- Experience with low-power design
- Experience building and running tests in CI environments, including running tests automatically on real hardware
- Experience instrumenting systems for performance measurement
