Job Description Summary

Senior Power Electronics Engineer at QuEra Computing designs, develops, and tests advanced power delivery and control systems that support neutral-atom quantum computing platforms. This includes low-noise power conversion, precision voltage/current regulation, and scalable power architectures for sensitive experimental and production quantum systems.

This role spans the full engineering lifecycle—from concept and system architecture through prototyping, validation, and deployment—ensuring robust, stable, and low-noise power for cutting-edge quantum hardware.

This position is based onsite in Boston, MA.

Duties/Responsibilities

Job Description:

  • Design, develop, and implement power system architectures for quantum computing platforms, including low-noise AC/DC and DC/DC power distribution, point-of-load regulation, and custom power conversion solutions.
  • Develop and test power electronics hardware such as DC/DC converters, linear regulators, power filtering systems, and precision current/voltage sources for sensitive instrumentation.
  • Optimize power systems for low noise, high stability, thermal performance, and scalability in lab and production environments.
  • Define and document technical specifications for power subsystems and support transition from prototype to production.
  • Analyze system-level power integrity, grounding, and EMI/EMC performance; ensure compliance with system requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex power electronics issues in integrated hardware systems.
  • Collaborate closely with physicists, RF/optics engineers, and system engineers to ensure power systems meet stringent experimental requirements.
  • Drive solutions to complex and evolving technical challenges; define requirements in ambiguous or research-driven contexts.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in power electronics and power integrity for precision hardware systems.
  • Identify technical risks related to power delivery and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support system bring-up, integration, and validation in laboratory and production settings.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal best practices for power system design.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills/Abilities

  • Strong expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Low-noise DC/DC power conversion (isolated and non-isolated)
    • Linear regulation and precision analog power design
    • Power integrity, grounding, and EMI/EMC mitigation techniques
    • Battery systems or energy storage (nice to have, less central)
    • Thermal management of power electronics
  • Experience designing, simulating, and troubleshooting power electronics systems.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, especially for power and mixed-signal designs.
  • Experience with circuit simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).
  • Familiarity with system modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of noise-sensitive systems and techniques for minimizing ripple, drift, and interference.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to produce clear and detailed technical documentation.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience

5–7 years of experience in power electronics engineering or related fields, ideally involving high-performance, low-noise, or precision hardware systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with sensitive instrumentation, scientific hardware, or physics-based systems.
  • Familiarity with laboratory environments and experimental system integration.
  • Experience supporting hardware scaling from prototype to production.
  • Knowledge of international power standards and practices.
