Your Opportunity
With guidance from the electrical team principal, you will lead electrical design and construction oversight on a broad variety of building design projects in different geographies and diverse industry sectors, including healthcare, education, commercial, institutional, industrial, etc. Your involvement will start at initial proposal stage and will continue until project closeout. You will work on various electrical systems associated with buildings and other structures or places. You will work with clients, guide junior and design staff, and coordinate with other discipline teams.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for projects of various complexity/size.
- Assess required work and prepare proposals.
- Select appropriate team for a project and inform that team of an assignment.
- Lead electrical engineering work on all electrical systems for a project.
- Present designs to clients and obtain acceptance.
- Coordinate development of models and working drawings utilizing BIM and AutoCAD technologies.
- Prepare or oversee necessary calculations and sizing.
- Lead preparation of project specifications, including where applicable commercial terms.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner, contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Participate in value analysis and basic cost estimating.
- Manage the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
- Perform and oversee the performance of necessary calculations.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
- Conduct peer reviews of project work prepared by other engineers.
- Lead the development of new standards, practices, and specifications for the electrical team.
- Work on multiple concurrent projects.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Comprehensive knowledge and application of National Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Ontario Building Code and other applicable building and industry codes.
- Thorough understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry practices including but not limited to medium and low voltage electrical systems, power distribution, backup power generation, UPS, lighting and lighting controls, fire detection and alarm.
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Good presentation and interview skills.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD.
- Experience with specialty modeling software, such as AGI 32, Visual Lighting, SKM, ETAP, HOMER, etc. is an asset.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering & Licensed Professional Engineer with PEO required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience preferred.
- G-class driver’s license
- Certification in lighting, power systems analysis, renewables design is an asset.
- Experience in information communications and technology is an asset.
- Experience in mission critical engineering design (data centers, etc.) is an asset.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may require travel and include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
