Job Purpose

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading new and continuous development work for the electrical system and subsystems on our robot.

As a core team member in our Operations Department, you will also collaborate extensively with members of the Embedded and Robot Software teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Feature and sub-system ownership from design and development through testing, build package and BOM generation and release to production.
  • Generate system diagrams, electrical schematics, and wiring harness diagrams and assist with assembly and build documentation for both new designs and improvements to existing ones.
  • Define and select electromechanical components such as sensors, actuators, servo motors, and electronic components in conjunction with other engineering functions.
  • Perform troubleshooting of complex analog and digital circuits, from initial failure identification to the implementation of long-term engineering changes.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and firmware teams to ensure integration of electronics within the robot.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to meet development and production timelines.
  • Support field deployments and trials at customer sites.

Core Competencies:

  • Power Distribution: Solid understanding of DC-DC conversion, battery protection circuits, and managing "dirty" power in systems with high-torque motors.
  • Communication Standards: Hands-on experience debugging hardware-level communication issues across CAN bus, Ethernet, and RS-485/UART.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): The ability to design boards that are easy to assemble and test, reducing scrap rate and assembly time.
  • Technical Self-Sufficiency: A 'roll-up-your-sleeves' mentality with the ability to move a project from concept to a physical, tested prototype with minimal supervision.
Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Full-Cycle PCBA Design: Schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout using Altium Designer, with a focus on DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and signal integrity.
  • Mixed-Signal Circuitry: Design and analysis of analog, digital, and power electronics, including DC-DC conversion and motor drive circuits.
  • System Troubleshooting: Advanced Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of complex hardware failures using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Robotic Communication: Practical implementation and debugging of industrial protocols, specifically CAN bus and Ethernet.
  • Interconnect Design: End-to-end wire harness design, including connector selection (TE, Molex), wire gauging, and 2D/3D documentation.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as an Electrical/Electronics Engineer
  • Working expertise in Altium Designer
  • Experience with the design of analog and digital circuits
  • Experience using Oscilloscope and logic analyzer equipment
  • Solid organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to multitask
  • Demonstrated ability to perform requirements-driven electrical design
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to successfully work autonomously and collaborate across teams

Preferred Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience with Altium
  • Experience in Robotics Design and Embedded Development a plus for proof of concept
  • Experience with C and Python
  • Familiarity with object-oriented design principles a plus
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks Electrical

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
