Summary Generated by Built In

We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Electrical. The successful candidate will design and build an automotive Electronic Control Unit (ECU) network integration and cyber evaluation environment (ICEE) used for technical proficiency and training, helping DND establish cyber operational resiliency requirements within its acquisition and procurement processes and build a sustainable cyber mission assurance culture across equipment and project teams.

What You'll Do
  • Advise and assist DND staff on CANBUS network architecture, protocol implementations, CAN traffic analysis, and associated security weaknesses and mitigations.
  • Develop, design, build, and commission an automotive bench-top ECU network based on the Resistant Automotive Miniature Network (RAMN) architecture, supporting CAN/CAN-FD protocols.
  • Produce complete design artefacts, including system architecture, schematics, bill of materials (BOM), wiring diagrams, enclosure layout, network configuration, and safety considerations.
  • Develop test cases and automation scripts (e.g., Scapy, python-can, or equivalent) to exercise and validate the network, including logs and reproducible test procedures.
  • Integrate and customize RAMN firmware and scripts as needed, documenting all modifications.
  • Provide operator documentation, maintenance procedures, and knowledge transfer to DND staff.

Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with senior-level experience in automotive or embedded systems engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of CAN/CAN-FD bus protocols, ECU network architecture, and automotive cybersecurity principles.
  • Hands-on experience designing and building embedded hardware systems, including schematics, PCB/BOM development, wiring, and enclosure design.
  • Proficiency in Python-based test automation and network traffic analysis tools (e.g., Scapy, python-can).
  • Experience with firmware integration and customization for embedded/automotive platforms.
  • Excellent technical writing skills for producing design documentation, test procedures, and knowledge transfer materials.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prior experience with defence, government, or other security-cleared environments is an asset.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain the required government security clearance.
