Position Summary

We are seeking an Sr. HSE Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and promoting a safe working environment on construction sites. This role involves implementing EHS programs, conducting site inspections, providing training, and supporting the team in reducing risks and incidents.

Key Responsibilities

EHS Program Implementation

    • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific EHS policies and procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations.
    • Conduct hazard assessments and recommend corrective actions.
    • Provide guidance on environmental compliance, such as waste management and stormwater pollution prevention.

Site Inspections and Audits

    • Perform regular inspections of the construction site to identify potential hazards.
    • Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings and follow up on corrective actions.

Training and Education

    • Conduct EHS training sessions for employees, contractors, and subcontractors.
    • Develop and deliver toolbox talks and safety meetings.
    • Promote a culture of safety awareness through education and engagement.

Incident Response and Reporting

    • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
    • Prepare detailed reports and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
    • Assist in emergency response planning and drills.

Documentation and Reporting

    • Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and training activities.
    • Submit required EHS compliance reports to regulatory agencies.
    • Track and analyze safety metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Collaboration and Communication

    • Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and workers to address safety concerns.
    • Serve as a point of contact for regulatory agencies and external auditors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, or related field
  • Professional safety certification preferred (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHST)
  • 5+ years of EHS Program Management experience, with at least 3 years specifically in commercial construction
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926) and applicable state OSHA programs. OSHA 510 (Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry) a plus
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification
  • Demonstrated understanding of commercial construction means, methods, and sequencing
  • Experience promoting safety culture and employee engagement at the project level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting safety metrics and trends to senior leadership
  • Proficiency in incident investigation methodology (root cause analysis, corrective action tracking)
  • Experience with EHS management software/digital compliance platforms (e.g., SALUS, Procore, HammerTech, or similar)
  • Experience managing subcontractor/trade partner safety compliance, including submittal review and site-specific safety plans
  • Ability to work independently across multiple active job sites and manage competing priorities
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% across the Southeast and Midwest
  • Competent Person qualifications in excavation, fall protection, and/or scaffolding preferred

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 2-5 years of EHS experience in the construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes
  • Excellent communication and training skills
  • Proficiency in incident investigation techniques (e.g., root cause analysis)
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
