Responsible for leading White Cap’s enterprise indirect tax function, including tax compliance, audits, technology, systems governance, and support for business initiatives such as acquisitions, integrations, ERP implementations, and transformation activities.
Provides senior leadership for a complex, high-volume function that supports customer experience, operational effectiveness, compliance, risk management, and scalable business growth.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
Leads the indirect tax function across all White Cap businesses, entities, systems, and jurisdictions and establish the strategic direction, priorities, and operating model for indirect tax compliance, audits, technology, customer exemption processes, and integration support.
Oversees high-volume sales and use tax compliance processes, including return filing, payment processes, account reconciliations, and related operational controls ensuring indirect tax compliance activities are accurate, timely, well-controlled, and appropriately documented while maintaining governance over indirect tax processes that impact financial reporting, customer billing, exemption handling, and audit readiness.
Drives the adoption and optimization of tax technology solutions and lead indirect tax technology strategy, including Vertex, exemption certificate tools, ERP integrations, tax engine configuration, system access governance, and related operational processes while implementing process-improvement initiatives to reduce manual work, improve transparency, strengthen controls, and support scalable compliance.
Provides senior indirect tax leadership for acquisitions, integrations, entity mergers, legal-entity changes, and system conversions and assess acquired-company indirect tax processes, exposure areas, exemption practices, compliance status, system configuration, and customer-facing tax impacts.
Leads strategy and oversight for taxing jurisdiction audits of sales and use tax, property tax, business licenses/tax and other indirect tax queries.
Provides senior leadership over the company’s customer exemption certificate strategy, processes, systems, controls, and related customer/branch support, oversee exemption certificate platform evaluation, implementation, and optimization, including scalability for acquisitions and future growth.

Work Environment
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
No travel required.
Education and Experience
Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally, 9+ years of experience in a related field, including several years in a management/supervisory capacity.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Business, or related field. CPA, CMI, JD, MST, or similar advanced credential preferred.
20 years of progressive leadership experience in indirect tax in a large, multi-state,multi-entity business.
Experience leading teams and managing managers / senior professionals.
Experience with Vertex or similar tax engine, ERP integrations, exemption certificate platforms, and tax technology governance.
Experience supporting M&A, business integrations, legal-entity changes, and system migrations.
Strong experience managing sales/use tax audits and indirect tax controversy.
Experience working in a high-growth, operationally complex, customer-facing business environment.
