Senior Director of Engineering

CLEAR is looking for a Senior Director of Engineering to lead our CLEAR1 engineering org. You’ll lead the team behind the platform that powers our member identity, KYC compliance, subscription management, and biometric authentication systems. You will shape the strategy, structure, and execution of engineering efforts that ensure millions of CLEAR members—and our enterprise partners—can securely enroll, subscribe, and verify identity across both digital and physical environments. This is a critical role for a hands-on leader who thrives at the intersection of compliance-grade infrastructure, B2B integration, and consumer-first experiences.

What You’ll Do:

• Define and execute the technical strategy for CLEAR1, our identity and membership platform serving both B2C and enterprise (B2B) use cases.
• Lead and grow a team of Engineering Managers and senior ICs, fostering a high-performance culture and supporting career development.
• Oversee the engineering behind core consumer and enterprise experiences, including biometric onboarding, KYC/AML workflows, billing, payments, account management, and enterprise identity integrations.
• Own vendor partnerships across CRM, payments, and billing platforms—ensuring cost-effective, scalable, and reliable solutions.
• Partner closely with Product, Security, and Engineering leadership to ensure platform decisions meet both member needs and enterprise compliance and integration requirements.
• Drive engineering and operational excellence, implementing metrics-driven processes, platform reliability standards, and scalable architecture.

What You’re Great At:

• Leading at scale: You’ve managed teams of 20+ engineers and managers delivering complex consumer and enterprise systems.
• Building B2B products: You have experience developing platforms that support enterprise integrations, partner SLAs, and security/compliance requirements.
• Driving platform evolution: You’ve led major re-architecture efforts, multi-tenant service builds, or vendor migrations at scale.
• Bridging product and technical strategy: You partner well with cross-functional teams to translate complex requirements into clear roadmaps and systems.
• Raising the bar: You bring a track record of instilling engineering excellence through mentorship, structure, and a strong quality culture.

The base salary range for this role is $250,000-$300,000 depending on levels of skills and experience.

The base salary range represents the low and high end of CLEAR’s salary range for this position. Salaries will vary depending on various factors which include, but are not limited to location, education, skills, experience and performance. The range listed is just one component of CLEAR’s total compensation package for employees and other rewards may include annual bonuses, commission, Restricted Stock Units.
