The Data Science & Analytics (DSA) organization is a core part of product leadership at Roblox. Our mission is to accelerate and enhance product development through data-driven insights, rigorous measurement, and causal inference & machine learning expertise. We work closely with product and engineering teams to uncover opportunities, inform strategy, develop solutions and facilitate decision-making. Our work not only drives impact but also expedites the product development cycle to improve experiences for our vast player and developer community.

As the Senior Director of Data Science & Analytics - Consumer, you will be pivotal in shaping the data strategy and consumer experience across the Roblox platform. Your focus will include but not limit to solving complex marketplace problems within discovery, balancing diverse utilities for users, and ensuring seamless alignment with the broader Roblox ecosystem—including advertising, creator success, and player satisfaction.

You will bring to bear your superpower in discovery algorithms, recommendation systems, and causal inference to drive data strategies that directly influence how users discover and engage with content. By collaborating with cross-functional partners, you’ll help expedite product development and deliver high-impact improvements to social experiences, recommendations, and the overall consumer journey across platforms and markets.

This position reports into the VP, Data Science & Analytics an is based in San Mateo, CA.

You Will:

  • Apply causal inference methodologies and experimentation to gain actionable insights into user behavior, marketplace impact, and product performance.
  • Evaluate, develop and optimize algorithms that enhance content discovery, user social experiences, and boost overall user engagement within Roblox ecosystems.
  • Navigate and balance competing needs across the marketplace—user experience, creator success, and advertising efficacy—to drive value across the Roblox ecosystem.
  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and Growth teams to ensure alignment between data science initiatives and business objectives, contributing to an integrated consumer strategy.
  • Build scalable data solutions to drive continuous improvements across the Roblox app on different platforms, supporting both global markets and user satisfaction.

You Have:

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, or other quantitative fields.
  • 14+ years experience in data science, analytics, or relevant technical fields, with deep experience in consumer platforms and multi-sided marketplaces.
  • 5+ years leading, developing, and scaling high-performing data science teams.
  • Advanced experience with big data query languages (e.g., SQL, Hive, Spark) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, R).
  • Expertise in causal inference and experience working with recommendation systems

  • Strong Communicator & Collaborator: You excel at translating complex data insights into actionable strategies, facilitating critical conversations across cross-functional teams and executive partners.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$415,750$476,710 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
