About This Role
The Senior Director of Commercial Strategy & Operations is responsible for ensuring the Biogen North America (BNA) Organization is best positioned to deliver on its business objectives by establishing clear strategic priorities, driving execution effectiveness, and spearheading innovation across the organization. This role will work closely with the office of the President of North America and is empowered to optimize how the US Organization operates through the identification and prioritization of key initiatives in the areas of strategy, innovation, processes, systems and tools. This role will report to the Head of Strategic Operations and Portfolio for North America.
This role will lead through influence and form strong and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders to not only ensure organization alignment on key priorities but also ensure BNA Organization delivers on organizational goals. This role will lead and drive complex cross-functional teams, and as necessary, provide matrixed leadership to the broader US Organization. Qualified candidates will be high performing and high potential Commercial leaders with a solid track record in stakeholder management, innovative commercial strategy, and delivering compelling results within a pharma commercial context.
There are three key areas of focus for this role: 1.) BNA Strategy Development, 2.) Operations & Commercial Excellence, 3.) New Products Commercialization.
What You’ll Do
1. BNA Strategy Development
Identifies and drives development and implementation of strategic priorities for BNA through cross-functional efforts
Lead development of multi-year BNA strategy and annual BNA strategy refresh through close partnership with BNA Leadership Team (NALT)
Ensure coordination of strategic initiatives across BNA to leverage synergies, identify interdependencies and avoid duplication of efforts
Drive key strategic initiatives across BNA and provide thought leadership and advice to guide these projects to ensure progress and impact are realized
Support Head of Strategic Operations and Portfolio Innovations and Office of the President of BNA in preparation for Board and EC-level business reviews and communications
2. Operations & Commercial Excellence
Establish and update BNA Governance Operating Rhythm, including supporting BNA Leadership Team and BNA Operating Committee
Drive optimization and continuous improvement on BNA annual strategic planning cycle (including AOP, ICP) in partnership with FP&A and business franchises.
Collaborate with members of the NALT to identify strategic and operational opportunities across BNA Org to enhance BNA business
Identify the opportunities to improve business practices and processes to maximize resources and achieve operational excellence across BNA
Develops and implements processes for capturing, cataloging, analyzing and disseminating key lessons to be learned from initiatives, with a view toward helping propagate best practices throughout the enterprise
3. New Products Commercialization and Integration Support
Liaise with Global PDCs and lead new products commercialization for BNA for pipeline and/or Business Development assets
Assess and lead the build-out of new product commercialization capabilities in North America, in collaboration with all key functions across the organization
Manage and oversee all late-stage BNA pipeline programs to ensure BNA partnership with Global PDCs and initiate BNA preparations for launch readiness via BNA Launch Operations Teams (LOT)
Supports integration of potential M&A deals into BNA business
Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree required, Masters/MBA or other advanced educational achievement preferred
12+ years of experience leading large/complex programs and initiatives
Commercial functional knowledge
Pharma commercial experience required
Ability to lead and influence in the matrix
Excellent interpersonal skills/highly collaborative
Understands Biogen culture, organizational structure, and processes
Ability to cultivate strong internal/external networks
Strong operational skills; project/timeline management capabilities
Effective stakeholder management and problem-solving skills
Previous Strategy Consulting in Pharma strongly preferred
Previous Commercial or Marketing Experience Preferred

Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
