Job Overview:

The Senior Director – Commercial Learning Services (CLS) is a visionary leader driving innovation in our learning and development (L&D) efforts to achieve our purpose to make life better for more and more patients globally faster. As a critical part of the Global Customer Office, the Commercial Learning Services Sr. Director leads a team of diverse, dedicated learning professionals responsible for transforming Lilly's commercial capabilities across functions.

This role will drive transformation within CLS and serve as the key point person for implementing transformation initiatives, ensuring alignment with Lilly’s L&D ecosystem. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for leveraging technology to enhance learning and the learner experience, along with a consistent record of influencing change and driving adoption on a global scale. This position reports to the AVP, Global Commercial Learning Services.

ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Strategy

  • Assemble and lead high-performing team, fostering an environment of excellence and growth.
  • Develop and implement a progressive, comprehensive global CLS transformation strategy that aligns with Lilly’s enterprise learning strategy and industry best practices.
  • Lead the transformation of CLS processes through innovative automation solutions, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in content development and learning operations.
  • Develop key feedback mechanisms and metrics that will provide direction for the ongoing evolution and improvement of learning across the organization.
  • Collaborate closely with CLS colleagues and cross-functional teams including Global L&D, Global Learning Solutions, Tech@Lilly, Quality, Learning Council, Learning Operations, and functional L&D groups to ensure the portfolio of initiatives is designed for maximum benefit and to accelerate adoption.
  • Influence senior leadership and stakeholders across the organization to secure consensus and resources for CLS initiatives, leading associated budgets and resources.
  • Deliver ongoing projects within the CLS transformation roadmap while further developing and refining the overall transformation strategy.

Business Impact

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring solutions are scalable, sustainable, meet compliance requirements, and have a measurable impact on business performance via time savings, streamlined employee and manager experience with L&D, and error reduction.
  • Manage the portfolio of initiatives, ensuring they are effectively sequenced and delivered on time with appropriate documentation and plans for ongoing operational support and maintenance.
  • Drive global adoption of CLS initiatives via effective change management, communication, and operational excellence strategies, ensuring the initiatives deliver value via positive business case analysis.

Global Initiatives & External Environment

  • Influence long term L&D technology architecture and processes in collaboration with the Sr. Director – Global L&D Transformation and Sr. Director – Global Learning Solutions.
  • Drive the CLS elements of Lilly’s enterprise Skills strategy for upskilling, reskilling, and other talent development purposes based on internal requirements and external trends.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends in L&D and automation technologies, incorporating innovative external and internal practices into the CLS strategy.
  • Identify, collaborate with, and lead appropriate suppliers and external partners to achieve transformation objectives.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years leading learning and development within or outside of healthcare.
  • Minimum of 8 years of leadership and supervisory experience

Additional Preferences

  • M.S. degree, certification, or equivalent experience in Instructional Systems Technology, Human Performance Technology, IT, or related fields.
  • Extensive experience with current and emerging technologies in training, including learning management systems, learning experience platforms, and skills-based technology tools.
  • Demonstrated history of leading teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Proficient in learning technology architecture, data flow, data integrity, and quality system ownership responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to strategize and implement learning processes and technologies in regulated environments, ensuring audit readiness and alignment with broader OCM strategies.
  • Experienced L&D leader and thought leader with a strong background in instructional design, analysis, and evaluation.
  • Strategic performance consulting experience to proactively address critical business needs through learning and development initiatives.
  • Transformational leader with vision, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of driving organizational change in commercial and/or medical sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and lead diverse teams to deliver superior performance while influencing senior leadership and business stakeholders.
  • Skilled in navigating complex, matrix-based organizations and managing ambiguity, complexity, and conflict to drive business solutions.
  • Intellectually curious, open-minded, and dedicated to seeking external perspectives and applying innovative approaches to challenges.

Other Information:

  • Up to 10% travel anticipated
  • Flexible role in Indianapolis (on site the majority of the time)
  • Significant flexibility outside normal business hours to collaborate with global colleagues is required

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$150,000 - $220,000

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
