Dimensional Control is a critical engineering discipline in product development, ensuring industry-leading quality and craftsmanship. We are seeking a Senior Dimensional Control Engineer to support the Senior Director of Dimensional Control in integrating and applying dimensional control tools and methodologies throughout the product development process. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving product and process excellence through implementation of dimensional control tools and processes.PositionSenior Dimensional Control EngineerLocationUSA, Louisville, KY

How You'll Create Possibilities

  • Support product design teams in managing dimensional variation to maintain high standards of quality and craftsmanship, utilizing dimensional control principles.
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration to achieve product and process excellence using dimensional engineering principles.
  • Drive rigor in Design for Dimensional Control through robust locator designs and process datum coordination.
  • Engage with the dimensional variation analysis team to drive dimensional design optimization early in the design cycle.
  • Ensure the proper application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in a model-based definition environment to enable digital re-use.
  • Lead efforts to integrate dimensional control methodologies into the product development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve dimensional control issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
  • Develop and implement dimensional control strategies and processes that align with company goals and objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement digital engineering tools and processes to advance engineering productivity.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in dimensional engineering within a product development environment (7+ years)
  • Proven expertise in achieving excellence through Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, and Design for Dimensional Control principles.
  • Demonstrated application of dimensional engineering fundamentals in product design including defining key characteristic, locator designs, process datum coordination, tolerance analysis, and defining dimensional requirement using GD&T and inspection points.
  • Strong technical foundation of key manufacturing processes such as stamping and injection molding.
  • Passion for achieving a high level of product craftsmanship and functional quality.
  • Embraces a growth mindset with a strong drive for learning and continuous improvement.
  • Experienced in leading cross-functional teams and driving concurrent engineering processes
  • Demonstrated experience developing robust product and process locator designs
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to guide, shape, and influence engineers

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Expertise in part design and assembly modeling using CAD software
  • Experienced in mentoring and developing junior engineers.
  • Experienced with automotive / aerospace quality processes or similar.
  • Experienced in interpreting GD&T part inspection data from CMM or 3D Scanning
  • Experienced in GD&T tolerance analysis using 3D variation analysis software.
  • Experienced with functional gaging and inspection holding fixtures for inspection of GD&T
  • GD&T Technologist certification per ASME Y14.5
