If watching a team get blocked for hours by busted tooling makes you want to fix it, not just complain about it, this role is for you.
As a Senior Developer Experience Engineer, you will own and evolve the tooling, systems, and environments that enable IDEXX engineers to build, test, and ship high-quality software efficiently. Based in our Auckland R&D hub, you will focus on improving the day-to-day experience of developers by creating scalable, reliable, and intuitive engineering platforms.
The Veterinary Software division is part of IDEXX’s mission to build a leading vertical SaaS platform for animal health. From our global Software Centre of Excellence, we design, build, and operate cloud-native systems that support veterinary professionals worldwide. You own and evolve internal platforms, including CI/CD pipelines, test infrastructure, and developer environments
You define and implement observability strategies, including dashboards, monitoring, and alerting
You design and build cloud-native solutions using AWS and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
You contribute to architectural decisions that support scalability, performance, and reliability
You drive standardisation and best practices across engineering teams
You collaborate with developers to understand their needs and treat internal engineers as your customers
You enable the evolution of systems toward modular, domain-oriented architectures
You build systems that are observable, resilient, and easy to operate at scale
You explore and implement AI-enabled development tools and workflows to enhance productivity
You identify opportunities to automate processes and improve engineering efficiency
You write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
You contribute to strong engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and DevSecOps
This role has a compounding impact across the entire engineering organisation. By improving developer experience and reducing friction, you will enable teams to deliver faster, more reliably, and with greater confidence. Your work will directly influence engineering productivity, system quality, and the ability to scale our platform—ultimately supporting better outcomes for veterinary professionals and animal health worldwide.
