Design at Rise8
At Rise8, we inspire change in software cultures to prioritize rapid delivery of end-user outcomes. As a Designer here, you'll transform clients unfamiliar with design-thinking and user research into agile and empathetic problem-solvers. Your role involves hands-on work and mentorship around User Centered Design principles, "double diamond" processes, and establishment of feedback loops through research and prototyping.
We value versatile, "full stack" Product Designers that own the holistic user experience for their product or service. Our Designers are researchers, service designers, brand strategists, and interface designers, all in one. Each project will require a different blend of skills depending on client needs. While not required to be an expert in all areas, a growth mindset to develop in less familiar domains is essential.
Designers will spend most of their time embedded in a cross-functional team for a single product or service. As such, we come together as a broader Rise8 design community to share and evolve our practices across teams.
Senior Developer Experience (DX) Design Role
Because Rise8 is a professional services company focused on improving the software delivery practices of customer organizations, growing in your career here means having more of an impact as a consultant.
At Rise8, our Senior Developer Experience Designers (SDXD) are expected to be a design lead within a cross-functional team and own the end-to-end developer experience for their technical product or service. In this DX role, the end users will be developers and the SDXD will deploy research techniques to learn and design a better experience for them. A SDXD will look into ease of use, documentation effectiveness, efficiency of developer workflows, availability of support and overall satisfaction with the development process.
In addition to being a lead within a team, Senior Designers are additionally expected to be local leaders and demonstrate design thought-leadership across teams that creates a positive impact on an organization’s design culture.
Qualifications
- 6-10 years experience in a product design, service design, engineering, UX, or related field.
- Bring deep experience in at least one of the three facets of DX design and curiosity to grow in the others: User Research, Engineering and/or Service Design.
- Technical knowledge around software engineering, platforms and deployment practices to aid in designing developer-facing experiences.
- Experienced in user research methodologies and can educate others.
- Able to lead design from research through implementation.
- Experience designing different solutions for different use cases (consumer facing to internal).
- Experience using modern design systems and frameworks (eg. iOS, Android, Bootstrap, Material Design, Tailwind, USWDS, etc.)
- Ability to work in and apply design processes in agile environments.
- Experience and curiosity within agile and lean philosophies.
- Experience working with clients or stakeholders in a consulting role.
- Active member of the design community.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance for US Government work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Have experience coaching client designers in user-centered design practices through “pairing” enablement.
- A toolbox of various talks and workshops you’ve led to improve design practices in an organization.
- Strong facilitation skills.
- Experience working on cross functional software teams
- Experience with DoD, especially at a DoD "Software Factory."
- Currently holds a security clearance.
Salary
The annual salary range for this role as it is posted is $133,358.00 to $200,037.00 regardless of final candidate location within the United States. The final job level and annual salary will be determined based on the education, qualification, knowledge, skills, ability, and experience of the final candidate(s), and calibrated against relevant market data and internal team equity.

Or Rise8 is part of the the Life Time Corporate Partner program. In lieu of your $500 annual wellness benefit, you can instead get a $75 monthly credit towards a Life Time membership ($900 annual benefit).

All of Rise8’s work in this area is with Federal Government customers that require our employees involved with their projects be U.S. citizens. As such, this role requires U.S. citizenship. If hired, you would also be required to go through a background investigation.
