This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit's Commercial Business Units ("Spirit Commercial"). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing's three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminium manufacturing solutions.
This position is within the IT Infrastructure and End User Services organization. This role serves as a strategic technical IT leader, technical authority, and service owner responsible for working with a vendor team to oversee and govern the organization's end-user computing and endpoint management strategies and operational services to the business. In this critical seat, you own the enterprise-wide backbone of all end-user technologies-including Desktop, Imaging, Application Packaging, and Virtualization IT Infrastructure-which directly fuel the company's production delivery, end-user support, and communications. You will drive operational excellence by partnering with and governing our outsourced IT service providers to guarantee all infrastructure, architecture and performance standards are met. Additionally, you will act as the ultimate escalation point for the managed services vendor relationship in this area, provide formal approval for system designs and maintenance, oversee hardware leasing/refreshes, and coordinate with other organizations to align to overall Boeing technical strategy and delivery.
Position Responsibilities:
Service Ownership & Vendor Governance
- Endpoint & Desktop Architecture: design, deploy, and manage cloud-based virtual desktops (e.g., VMware Horizon, Virtual Desktop, and Cloud Desktop Environment) and enterprise endpoint solutions.
- Oversee digital workplace technologies, identity services, software delivery, and device lifecycle management.
- Oversee Outsourced Providers: Partner with IT service and software providers to guarantee desktop, virtualization, and packaging architecture meet corporate standards and ensure highly available and reliable IT services.
- Performance Oversight: Review provider performance against established SLAs and KPIs, monitor service request and incident backlogs, and implement active mitigations.
- Operational Control: Provide strategic guidance, rigorous oversight, and formal approval for infrastructure designs, technical implementations, maintenance schedules, and demand prioritization.
- Vendor Operations Support: Support external vendor team member onboarding and govern system access permissions.
- Framework Adherence: Work within the established vendor management governance framework to seamlessly administer the endpoint technology stack.
Asset Lifecycle & Financial Management
- Lease & Refresh Management: Manage hardware devices currently on lease, coordinating directly with vendors on automated device deployments, configurations, and lifecycle refreshes.
- Financial Planning: Review, plan, and formally represent corporate requests for maintenance, technology budgets, equipment leases, and renewals within the internal planning and budgeting processes.
- Roadmap Integration: Translate partner technology upgrade roadmaps (such as OS lifecycles and virtualization advancements) into actionable insights for internal teams.
Compliance, Sourcing, & Enterprise Synergy
- Cross-Functional Synergy: Proactively coordinate and collaborate with peer vendor managers and IT business leaders to champion a unified enterprise technology strategy.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Education and Experience; 9-13 years with Bachelor Degree or 7-11 years with a MS Degree with IT infrastructure and endpoint systems engineering
- Technical Depth: Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure, application packaging, OS imaging, teleconferencing, and user device management (specifically Windows end-user environments).
- Virtualization Systems: Familiarity with desktop virtualization platforms (e.g., VDI, Citrix, VMware, Horizons, and/or cloud desktop environments).
- Location: Must be able to work 100% onsite at the Wichita facility.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly translate complex technical infrastructure requirements across all levels of the organization.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to work across multiple teams to coordinate and move execution priorities forward, as well as work with an outsourced partner team on prioritizations, ensuring incident resolutions, upgrades and improvement activities and coordination on priorities.

- Commercial Expertise: Direct experience with managing vendor partnerships at an operational level, software/hardware license management, and budgeting.
- Project Management: Proven experience utilizing project management methodologies to establish plans and monitor milestones toward tactical objectives.
