Purpose
Reporting to the Overhead Line Design Lead or Lead Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design for Transmission networks projects (132kV and above).
This will include providing the necessary design calculations, reports, drawings and defining, developing and maintaining standards for OHL installation works and providing effective technical support, advice and input throughout the lifecycle of the project within Scottish Power Transmission Projects.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the development of pre-contract design and delivery of projects by developing the technical aspects of OHL systems and all other associated equipment, you will perform all duties coupled with promoting, internally and externally, a strong emphasis on Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
Assessing engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance to meet client requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects, you will recommend construction and outage programmes where required in relation to OHL circuits.
Responsible for preparing basic and detailed engineering specifications for OHL system designs and costs for high value, complex or business critical projects, you will also drive resolution of statutory, land or other consents regarding OHL routes, providing technical assessment of tender submissions and reporting recommendations.
Defining OHL equipment requirements for input to System Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and BETTA documentation, you will prepare and review OHL drawings and technical specifications for Construction, Procurement or other stakeholders.
Controlling correspondence and drawings to be issued to the Project Delivery and Pre-Contract teams, you will ensure specifications, OHL system designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements whilst leading the technical resolution of Site/Construction OHL related issues.
What you’ll bring
Educated with an Engineering degree or HND/HNC with equivalent experience, you will possess proven experience in OHL design software, delivering engineering solutions and designs for high value and complex transmission OHL projects.
With ability to communicate with and influence senior managers, you will be skilled in writing clear and concise reports and documents covering technical subjects.
As a requirement to undertake short trips away from home is required, you will have flexibility in working hours to meet the position requirements.
