About the role:

The Senior Design Engineer leads the design, documentation, and implementation of complex building automation and control systems for commercial, industrial, and mission‑critical facilities. Acting as both a technical expert and mentor, this role drives high‑quality engineering deliverables, ensures adherence to industry standards, and supports seamless integration across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines.

The Senior Design Engineer plays a critical role in advancing Divcon’s building automation capabilities through technical leadership, cross‑functional collaboration, and development of scalable, energy‑efficient system designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design of BMS and EPMS systems, including schematics, riser/network diagrams, panel layouts, and wiring details.
  • Translate mechanical and electrical plans/specifications into complete automation control designs.
  • Develop sequences of operation, control narratives, and logic diagrams for advanced mechanical systems.
  • Produce and review control submittals, bills of material (BOMs), and device specifications.
  • Engineer system architectures involving BACnet, Modbus, and IP‑based networks, including integration of HVAC, lighting, and metering systems.
  • Design custom control panels and support shop verification or FAT/SAT testing.
  • Apply NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE, UL, and related codes across all design deliverables.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of drawings, submittals, and as‑built documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and system startup activities in collaboration with software and installation teams.
  • Troubleshoot control, electrical, and network-related issues during project execution.
  • Evaluate new control hardware, sensors, and energy‑efficiency strategies for potential implementation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, commissioning, and IT teams to ensure system compatibility, cybersecurity, and reliability.
  • Provide timely design clarifications and technical support to maintain project schedules.
  • Contribute to internal standards development, including templates, CAD standards, and design workflows.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and intermediate designers.
  • Support internal initiatives that advance team skills, design consistency, and engineering best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • Prior experience providing technical direction or overseeing design deliverables preferred.
  • PLC/HMI experience (Allen Bradley, Schneider, Siemens) a plus.
  • P.E. or E.I.T. preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods (typically 6-8 hours per day) while performing computer-based tasks and facility support tasks.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, mice, telephones, scanners and printers.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, bend, stoop, or reach to access filing cabinets, retrieve documents, or attend meetings.
