About Harbinger
Harbinger is an American commercial electric vehicle (EV) company on a mission to transform an industry starving for innovation. Harbinger’s best-in-class team of EV, battery, and drivetrain experts have pooled their deep experience to bring a first-of-its-kind EV platform to support the growing demand for medium-duty EVs and Hybrids. Harbinger: Familiar Form, Revolutionary Foundation.
You’ll own the engineering design of complex Low Voltage Subsystems and Components through their entire lifecycle (e.g. Body or Vehicle Control Modules, User Interface Systems, Power Distribution Systems, etc) Your main crossfunctional interfaces will be with Electrical and Software Engineering, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, and Program Management.
- Concept & Requirements: Utilize vehicle and system requirements to establish your subsystem architecture and component requirements. Define critical interfaces with mechanical, electrical and software systems. Perform proof of concept studies and create prototypes to validate initial assumptions.
- Sourcing & Supplier Selection: Evaluate available industry components and suppliers to determine the appropriate sourcing strategy. Co-develop Request for Quote (RFQ) packages and Statements of Work (SOW) with Supply Chain colleagues. Support supplier assessment and sign off on supplier selection.
- Design, Development, & Validation: Lead technical development of your component utilizing both in-house capabilities and supplier resources. Guide the supplier through technical roadblocks to ensure functional and timing requirements are met. Ensure design iterations are appropriately documented and communicated via 3D CAD, electrical specifications, etc. Ensure the component schedule is accurate, flag lead-time risk early and keep supplier deliveries on track for prototype and production builds. Co-develop the Design Validation Plan (DVP) with the supplier and review test results to ensure product quality.
- Production Launch: Collect and maintain all necessary documentation to release your components within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. Support Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Start of Production (SOP) activities for your component.
- Sustaining Engineering: Drive continuous improvement to cost, quality, and functionality of your components. Lead root cause activities for plant and field issues, and support supplier quality issues. Initiate and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) as necessary.
What You'll Need (Qualifications)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: 4+ years of experience in product engineering, electrical or electromechanical design, system engineering, or technical program management, specifically focused on automotive electromechanical control systems or wire harnesses.
- Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of 3D CAD tools (e.g. CATIA, Solidworks, NX, or similar) and PLM/BOM management systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Enovia, or similar). Experience with ECAD systems like Capital Networks or Zuken is a plus.
- Supplier Management and Quality: Experience writing component specifications or RFQs, comparing supplier proposals on technical merit and cost, and assessing supplier engineering, manufacturing and quality capability. Working knowledge of APQP and PPAP, and reviewing supplier DFMEAs and PFMEAs. Familiarity with automotive qualification standards such as AEC-Q, USCAR-2, ISO 16750 or CISPR 25 is a plus.
- Technical Acumen: Solid understanding of low voltage electrical principles, automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet), and familiarity with major automotive connector families (TE, Aptiv, Molex, etc.). Additionally must have a solid understanding of mechanical packaging concepts, enclosure design and fastening strategies for electrical devices and wire harnesses, and automotive durability factors (e.g. vibration profiles, environmental factors, material properties, etc)
- Project Management Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple complex supplier relationships simultaneously, with a track record of holding stakeholders accountable to deadlines.
