Senior DataBase Cloud Engineer

The Senior DataBase Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining databases. This role involves interaction with the client and coordination with different areas to carry out activities.

As a Senior DataBase Cloud Engineer, you will join Santander Digital Services in México as part of a Global Team. The services you support will be stable, secure, and performant. You are friendly and eager to dive into any problem thrown your way. You will be technically sharp, get technical concepts at their core, and go beyond comfortable “same old solutions.”

If you have 5 or more years of IT experience in a heavily regulated industry, and 5+ years of experience as a DataBase Administrator (experience with AWS and IaC is a plus), we'd love to hear from you. We are looking for a self-starter that is willing to handle all types of tasks with a positive attitude and minimum handholding.

Key Responsibilities

As a Database Engineer, you will help champion database infrastructure management, performance, and scalability of the database infrastructure for the cloud platform.

This is an opportunity to generate value in the company at scale. You will help create infrastructure and follow best practices using cutting-edge technologies.

Technical Involvement

• All aspects related to database administration. Including installation, configuration, updates, patching, migrations, planning capacity, evaluating database performance, backups, and recoveries.
• Creating and maintaining scripts to spin up and spin down Database infrastructure required for application on demand.
• Follow security compliances like passwords and key rotation policies.
• Develop and implement security policies for different managed databases. As well as procedures aligned with the company's objectives.
• Provide direct database support during various operations such as deployment and general production.
• Collaborate with developers to make sure new environments meet requirements and conform to best practices regarding database service.
• Oversee cloud consumption expenditure to create Cost savings/ Cost Optimization.
• Tag and monitor running instances and related services. Execute cost saving activities like instance shutdown.
• Conduct root cause analysis to evaluate process and software issues related to excessive cloud expenditure.
• Documentation of the tasks to be carried out/performed (For example: operations, task lists, resolution of incidents, implementation of new solutions, etc.).
• Knowledge of the DevOps work model and support. 
• Data migration between different database engines or from Onprem to AWS Cloud

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science of related degree
• Previous experience as a DataBase Administrator
• Demonstrable experience in administration of PostgreSQL/MySQL/ORACLE databases in production and non-production environments. 
• Practical experience in monitoring database environments (Experience working with services and solutions such as Grafana, Cloudwatch, etc). 
• Strong Linux system skills. 
• Knowledge and experience in coding solutions that allow for automating tasks and processes (Shell Script (Bash), Python, AWK, AWSCLI, AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible). 
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases is a plus. (MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Dynamo. 
• Experience managing large volumes of databases in various versions and technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, ORACLE). 
• Experience in the IT area, especially with the role of Database Administrator, for more than 5 years. 
• Fundamental AWS Knowledge is a plus:
  • Basic AWS Services: Familiarity with key AWS services such as EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud), S3 (Simple Storage Service), RDS (Relational Database Service), VPC (Virtual Private Cloud), IAM (Identity and Access Management), Lambda, CloudFormation
  • AWS Architecture: Understanding the principles of AWS architecture and design patterns to build scalable and secure solutions.
• Troubleshooting and Support
  • Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Skills to diagnose problems and perform troubleshooting on deployed infrastructure.
  • Documentation: Ability to document configurations, processes, and changes made to the infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge in troubleshooting and resolving incidences related to database service.
  • Possibility of getting involved in a 24x7 rotating support system.
