We are seeking a dedicated Senior Database Administrator to support the design, implementation, and ongoing management of database environments. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the performance, scalability, and reliability of critical systems through effective administration, monitoring, and optimization. You will collaborate closely with application development teams, contribute to key operational processes, and support deployments across on-premises and cloud environments. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, a strong focus on automation and efficiency, and a commitment to maintaining high standards in security, compliance, and service delivery.
Responsibilities- Support the design and implementation of relational and NoSQL databases.
- Perform core database administration tasks, including upgrades, patching, tuning, backups, troubleshooting, and support.
- Collaborate with application development teams to test, optimize, and troubleshoot database-driven applications.
- Contribute to daily operational activities impacting key IT processes and systems.
- Develop scripts and utilities to automate repetitive database tasks (non-development role).
Monitor database environments (production, test, development) to ensure performance, scalability, and availability.
- Support deployment of Verisk products across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Assist with enterprise security, auditing, and compliance initiatives.
- Mentor junior DBAs on best practices and emerging trends.
- Maintain professional communication with all collaborations.
- Participate in on-call rotation and occasional off-hours support to meet SLAs.
- Stay current with industry trends through continuous learning and professional development.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of database administration experience across multiple DBMS platforms.
- Strong experience with cloud databases, particularly AWS RDS, and 24/7 high-availability environments.
- Hands-on expertise with databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, DynamoDB, or Elastic.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot database issues (performance, integrity, replication, connectivity, security, etc.).
- Solid knowledge of backup, recovery, performance tuning, and overall database health management.
- Experience implementing high availability solutions (clustering, replication).
- Proficiency with enterprise database tools and Unix/Linux environments (scripting is a plus).
- Strong communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent English (written and spoken).
