The Role

Looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join our team to apply system analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users, to determine software and system specifications for, and coordinates the design, implementation, production support and troubleshooting for SQL servers and all databases in an integrated system in multiple locations. Both domestic and international, the Senior Database Administrator will implement systems technologies covering all users to ensure high-availability of the SQL server environments.

• Develops database standards and specifications, applies database systems analysis techniques and procedures to design, develop, implement, maintain and support databases throughout the Firm.• Works closely with IT staff to evaluate and install new applications and integrate them into the SQL server. Creates reviews and edits SQL code. Coordinates team members to ensure collaborative efforts result in maximum efficiency. May be required to develop, design, maintain and support database based software applications. • Maintains SQL Server client and server software to current stable service pack levels. Creates test environment and tests service packs prior to their installation in the production environment.• Tests, corrects errors, and modifies changes to programs or to databases. Reviews project requests describing database user needs, estimating time and cost required to complete project. Selects and enters codes to monitor database performance and to create production database. Coordinates with programmers and analysts to make changes to database management system. Reviews workflow charts developed by programmer analyst to understand tasks computer will perform. Reviews procedures in database management system manuals for making changes to databases. Confers with coworkers to determine scope and limitations of projects. Revises definition of data as defined in data dictionary. Specifies user and user access levels for each segment of databases. • Documents operating procedures and database design specifications for applications to be developed.• Serves as a liaison with vendors on the implementation of new packaged systems or upgrades to existing systems.• Create data feeds between applications and for import/export to external entities or to the cloud. Tools can include: SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Stored Procedures, Batch files, Winscp, Powershell, and various APIs. • Creates data warehouses and designs data integration processes. Writes logical and physical database descriptions, including location, space, access method, and security. Establishes and calculates optimum values for database parameters. Develops data model describing data elements and how they are used. Codes database descriptions and specific identifiers of database to management system, or directs others in coding descriptions.• Oversees server roles and database security procedures to control data access and server privileges.• Sets up and manages backups, log shipping and recovery. Monitor database backups using Ola Hallengren's scripts or Idera SQL Safe• Programs scripts for database monitoring and automating routine tasks.• Periodically reviews server disk capacity and usage to ensure proper database growth and determine the necessity for server expansion to ensure adequate database capacity Firm-wide.• Proactively maintains and expands knowledge of trends, developments and new technologies that impact database design and operations. Researches, evaluates and provides input on database products and researches, evaluates and recommends enhancements to current systems and methods of operating.• Responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining the highest level of security of all Firm records and files.• Supports off hours (evening, weekends and holiday) installations and upgrades as needed.• Participates in departmental project teams and task forces designed to streamline workflow and/or resolve issues; assists with various firm and/or departmental projects and initiatives as assigned.• Working with a requestor, creates reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)• Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.

• Bachelor's Degree in computer science or equivalent technical knowledge. Microsoft Certified Database Administrator Certification preferred.• 7-10 years of database experience.• Comprehensive knowledge of database administration and system analysis including design, installation and troubleshooting of MS SQL server on Windows server platforms. Experience using SQL server monitoring tools.• Thorough command of the industry language and the ability to effectively communicate technical information to a variety of technical and non-technical users.• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments, use initiative and judgment to accomplish results, participate as a team leader or member of a team, work under pressure and complete job assignments in an accurate, timely and professional manner.• Excellent presentation, communication, interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to interact effectively and professionally with all learning styles, personality types and levels of management, staff and a variety of external entities including clients and prospective clients of the Firm.• Ability to travel to the Firm's other offices.
