Together, we can #DestroyTheFaxMachine.
Company Overview
At Particle Health, our mission is to unlock the power of medical records in an intelligent platform that focuses healthcare back on the patient. We do that through connecting our customers to national and state medical record exchanges, which facilitates medical record sharing and interoperability. That also gives us access to arguably some of the best fully longitudinal data on millions of patients. Our energy is then spent organizing and processing that data, making that data useful in different settings. Powered by this data, we are building a data platform offering important clinical insights to our customers. Our customers are Healthcare AI companies building solutions, digital healthcare providers, payers, EHR, & condition-specific platforms.
About the Role
As a company, a key to our success is in analyzing healthcare data and creating new insights to help our customers treat patients, so we are growing our data science function. We have access to some very compelling data sets, primarily EHR, Rx Fill Data, and Provider Data that are enabled by recent healthcare interoperability regulations. We are looking for a seasoned expert who will help us advance our mission and build data products and capabilities.
As a key member of the Particle Health Data Science team, you will be a key player in shaping and executing foundational components of our analytics strategy, helping to define key models for some of the most interesting and challenging problems in healthcare. As a recognized expert on experiment design and statistical significance within the company, you will play a crucial role in identifying the limits of inference within our data and work closely with product and engineering to identify new analytical products, helping to ensure that our product roadmap continues to evolve toward products that are not only desirable, but feasible and viable as well. You will also contribute to our AI & NLP roadmap, which will become increasingly important over time.
A “day in the life” of a Senior Data Scientist at Particle will almost certainly involve a lot of curiosity – being willing to talk to stakeholders, investigate the complexities of patient-level data. You will think critically about how we can isolate key outcomes within our data and build models showcasing approaches toward identifying treatment adherence, gaps in care, risk scoring, and more. And you will work very closely with the data engineering function to ensure that these are carried through into production.
What You’ll Do:
- Our Data Scientists are “full stack” - their work spans data product development, analytics, data science and machine learning, and data visualization. They are deeply technical, and are able to prepare data they need for their work if needed.
- Work with product and engineering leadership to create product features, and analyses to develop our data understanding.
- Collaborate with other data scientists, data engineers and clinical experts. Lead projects to create new models, features, and data products and help deploy them to production.
- Work on both AI / Machine Learning projects, as well as analytics projects
- Support presales efforts and explore new use cases for our data
- Improve Data Quality - Identify gaps in data and help find ways to fill them. Data Quality is a major differentiator for our platform.
- Solve problems both through in-house efforts as well as finding creative ways to partner with other companies or open source initiatives.
- Examples of recent DS-led projects: AI Summarization of medical history, new product to help health systems to make strategic decisions, new internal data product to understand our geographic coverage, work to improve our data quality by imputing values to close gaps, predictive analytics project for GLP1 medication.
What We Look For:
- Healthcare Data Expertise: Extensive experience working with healthcare data (especially EHR and / or Claims data, ADTs), including clinical applications and / or risk stratification.
- Problem Solver: Proven ability to translate business goals and domain understanding into analytics strategies, utilizing both supervised and unsupervised analytics techniques effectively.
- Critical Thinker: A natural curiosity and passion for problem solving– the best candidate will be someone who has an innate curiosity and ability to break down complex data sets and extract meaningful insights to drive outcomes
- Innovative Approach: Creativity in addressing data limitations–framing the right questions as we seek to find the answers.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong technical experience SQL is a core part of daily workflows, and strong expertise here is critical. We also use & Python and Spark.
- End-to-End Delivery: Commitment to seeing projects through from ideation to implementation, with enthusiasm for productionalizing solutions and delivering direct impact to end users.
- Clear Communicator: Ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible language for nontechnical-stakeholders, fostering collaboration and achieving shared understanding.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience developing and deploying complex ML & statistical models, delivering impactful, data-driven solutions in production environments.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare data and formats (e.g. CCDA, FHIR, ADTs, Tuva Schema, OMOP), with a proven ability to address real-world healthcare challenges.
- Experience working with Value Based Care organizations, understanding their data and operational needs.
- Master's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience. Advanced healthcare-related credentials (e.g., MD, Pharm.D. PhD, RN, LPN) are a plus but not required!
- Business Intelligence Tools & Data Visualization Experience
- Experience with both supervised and unsupervised ML modeling techniques, with a nuanced understanding of their strengths, limitations and applications in a healthcare context.
