Senior Backend Engineer - Remote, Central/South America

Why this Role Matters:

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Greenbox Capital, you will be a senior individual contributor responsible for modernizing core platform capabilities that support the company’s origination ecosystem. This is a hands-on role focused on building scalable platform services primarily in Python on the Databricks platform, developing APIs and integrations, and helping evolve our current origination platform within a robust architecture.

You will help replace functionality within a legacy platform by building new services, reusable components, and integration layers. This role may also support implementation of third-party platform solutions and the integration required to make them successful. The ideal candidate brings a full-stack, platform-first mindset with strong backend engineering skills and the ability to work across cloud services, internal tooling, and user-facing applications. Experience with Databricks is an absolute must, component based front-end development critical, and AI-enabled application patterns is a plus.

How you’ll be measured:

Platform Modernization & Architecture Execution

• Partner with architecture and product to help modernize Greenbox Capital’s origination platform through phased replacement of legacy functionality.
• Design and implement services, APIs, workflows, and reusable components that reduce reliance on the existing .NET/C#, IIS, SQL-Server platform.
• Support migration planning, transition architecture, and coexistence between legacy, new, and third-party platform capabilities.
  

API & Integration Engineering

• Design, build, and support secure APIs and service integrations for internal systems, external partners, and third-party platforms.
• Lead or support integration of purchased platform solutions, including interface design, orchestration, authentication, observability, and operational support.
• Evolve and uphold API and integration standards for schema design, validation, error handling, versioning, and lifecycle management.
  

AI-Enabled Platform Capabilities

• Contribute where appropriate to projects incorporating AI capabilities — such as document processing, workflow augmentation, or decision support — as the platform matures.
• Ensure AI-enabled components are production-ready, observable, and aligned with platform architecture and compliance expectations.
  

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership

• Partner closely with software engineering, data engineering, data science, architecture, and product stakeholders to deliver high-value platform capabilities.
• Review designs and implementations to ensure alignment with architectural direction, engineering standards, and operational expectations.
• Provide technical leadership through strong execution, mentorship, and practical decision-making in ambiguous environments.
• Champion platform standards for reliability, scalability, and developer experience, while promoting transparency in quality, performance, and operational readiness
  

Platform Standards, Reliability, and Delivery Practices

• Accountable for applying standards for code quality, testing, documentation, CI/CD, security, and observability across platform-owned solutions.
• Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational guardrails to ensure reliability, supportability, auditability, security, and cost effectiveness.
• Promote reusable patterns needs, reference implementations, and documentation that incorporate automation and AI to improve long-term maintainability and speed of delivery.

What You’ve Done Before:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
• 5+ years building scalable backend services and APIs using Python
• Proven experience contributing to or leading platform modernization or migration initiatives
• Experience working in cloud-native environments (preferably Azure)
• Experience designing and operating production-grade REST APIs
• Background in regulated industries such as FinTech, Banking, or Healthcare is a plus

Tools and Expertise You’ll Bring:

• Advanced Python: service development, testing, packaging, and maintainable application design.
• Experience with Databricks, Spark, data pipelines, or broader data platform ecosystems.
• RESTful API design and integration patterns, including authentication, versioning, and error handling.
• Modern Python backend frameworks: FastAPI, Flask, or similar.
• Azure services: computer, storage, identity, networking, monitoring, and API management.
• CI/CD, version control, automated testing, and tooling such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Baseline DevOps and infrastructure ownership: pipelines, secrets management, deployment tooling.
• Relational and NoSQL data stores; asynchronous processing and event-driven architectures.
• Experience in regulated industries such as FinTech, Banking, or Healthcare
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience implementing or integrating commercial software platforms in enterprise environments.
• Experience building front-end applications with modern frameworks such as Vue.js, and internal tools or dashboards using Streamlit or similar technologies..
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Bicep.
• Experience with AI application patterns and enabling technologies used in production software solutions.
• Working knowledge of .NET/C# sufficient to read and understand the legacy platform being replaced.
