Position Objective: This Senior Data Management and Analytics Specialist to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office of Public Health Data, Surveillance, and Technology (OPHDST). This cross-functional position will support the Actionable Data Branch (ADB) across Science and Data Analysis and Data Management, with particular emphasis on Foundational Data and One CDC Data Platform (1CDP).


The Specialist will help ensure that high-value healthcare, population, community, demographic, geographic/geospatial, social, environmental, and other foundational data are well-managed, analytically ready, documented, discoverable, and effectively used across CDC. The position bridges data stewardship and management with scientific and analytic use, working with CDC scientists, analysts, engineers, program staff, and other stakeholders.



Duties and Responsibilities:

•Provide senior data management and analytic support for Foundational Data/1CDP and other CDC Data Hub data assets.

•Support management and stewardship of population and community data, including demographic, Census, geographic/geospatial, social, environmental, and other foundational data assets.

•Support healthcare and other complex data assets used for CDC scientific, surveillance, research, and analytic activities.

•Assess data structure, quality, completeness, limitations, fitness for use, and analytical readiness and advise CDC users on appropriate use and interpretation.

•Support the full data lifecycle, including ingestion, validation, quality control, release/version management, documentation, dissemination, maintenance, and archival.

•Develop and maintain data extracts, transformations, reusable analytic assets, standardized core tables, reference data, and other foundational components supporting shared CDC use cases.

•Support development, maintenance, and documentation of 1CDP ontology objects, data products, bundles, metadata, and Marketplace resources, including interoperability and appropriate version management.

•Conduct data analysis, validation, and quality-control activities using Databricks, Python, R, SQL, SAS, Spark, or other CDC-approved tools.

•Collaborate with CDC scientists and analysts on data preparation, exploratory analyses, analytic implementation, validation, and interpretation.

•Develop and maintain reusable code, QC scripts, technical documentation, data dictionaries, metadata, SOPs, and data management documentation.

•Collaborate with engineering teams to address data pipeline, transformation, dependency, and production-readiness issues.

•Serve as a liaison among CDC program staff, scientists, analysts, engineers, and other stakeholders to translate scientific and program needs into usable, well-managed data resources.

•Provide technical assistance, demonstrations, and knowledge sharing to help CDC users understand and effectively use Foundational Data, analytic tools, platforms, and workflows.

•Promote reproducible, standardized, and reusable approaches to data management and analytics across ADB.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

•MPH in Epidemiology or a closely related field.

•5+ years of progressively responsible experience relevant professional experience supporting data management, public health analytics, epidemiology, health data science, or related work.

•Experience with 1CDP/Palantir Foundry, Databricks, Microsoft Azure, or comparable cloud-based data and analytics platforms.

•Demonstrated experience managing and analyzing large, complex public health, healthcare, population, or community datasets.

•Experience with Python, SQL, R, SAS, or comparable analytical/programming tools.

•Experience performing data quality assessment, validation, transformation, documentation, and analytic preparation.

•Experience translating scientific or programmatic requirements into data management and analytic solutions.

•Knowledge of data stewardship, governance, metadata, lineage, versioning, data quality, and reproducible analytical practices.

•Ability to obtain and maintain the required Federal Public Trust.



Preferred Qualifications:

•Experience supporting CDC, HHS, or another Federal public health organization.

•Experience managing or analyzing Census, demographic, geospatial, social determinants of health, environmental, population, or other foundational datasets.

•Experience with large healthcare datasets such as EHR, claims, laboratory, pharmacy, hospital, or other licensed healthcare data.

•Experience developing reusable data products, standardized data assets, ontology objects, or data marketplace resources.

•Experience supporting scientific studies, analytic products, reports, presentations, or publications.

•Familiarity with interoperability, common data structures, healthcare terminology, or public health data standards.

•Ability to work across scientific, analytic, data management, and technical teams and communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

•Strong analytical, organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
