THE ROLE
At VerticalScope, we are reimagining the future of online communities.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you are an enthusiastic and driven teammate who helps us explore and implement cutting-edge AI solutions across our forums. Your job will be to drive our online community engagement using AI solutions such as Vertex, Perplexity, DeepL, and more.
You will report to the Director of Data & Analytics in a flat organization in a close-knit team. You will collaborate with our community managers, engineers, and product managers to help improve our user experience and grow our business.
The position is remote from Canada; the person must reside in the Eastern, Atlantic, or Newfoundland Time Zone (Ontario, Nunavut, Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, or Prince Edward Island, excluding Quebec).
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Rapidly prototype and test AI-powered features tailored to forum environments
• Build AI solutions, such as bots, to drive forum content creation and real user engagement
• Work closely with product and engineering to move fast from concept to live implementation
• Automate processes by writing and scheduling smart Python cron jobs
• Unlock smarter insights from our revenue, expense, and forum data by analysing billions of rows of BigQuery data
• Connect to banking APIs and work with accounting and finance systems (Sage) to maintain and improve automated expense/revenue reporting
• Implement data and analytics solutions, including dashboarding (we use LookerStudio)
• Other related responsibilities and ad hoc projects as negotiated and needed to meet the ongoing needs of the company
ABOUT YOU
• Five plus years of hands-on experience working with data or engineering
• Deeply curious about AI and automation, and has integrated with an AI solution such as Vertex, ChatGPT, DeepL, etc.
• Hands-on experience connecting to APIs and scraping with Python and SQL (BigQuery)
• Has built data connectors using Python and APIs/webscraping to Braintree, PayPal, GAM, Google Analytics, Programmatic advertising partners, etc.
• Understands forum database structures and knows how to navigate them
• Isn’t scared to test and try new approaches - you don’t get stuck perfecting things, and you get your hands dirty right away
• Can work independently (a doer!) but communicates clearly with the team
