What we're looking for

Due to the continued growth of the business and the importance of the data we use on a daily basis, we are currently looking for a for a data engineer to join our global Data team in Houston.

You will work closely with internal clients of the data team to support and maintain R, Excel and database-based processes for gathering data, calculating prices and producing the reports and data feeds. The work also involves writing robust automated processes in R.

What will you be doing?

  • Support and develop data processing systems using R and SQL
  • Client support with queries relating to
    • integration of Argus data and metadata into client systems
    • data validation
    • provision of data
  • Data and systems support to Argus' staff
  • Develop and maintain existing systems
    • metadata modification
    • data cleansing
    • data checking
  • Lead and manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery
  • Effectively communicate project progress and outcomes to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and successful project execution
  • Set and manage expectations with stakeholders, ensuring clarity and transparency throughout the project lifecycle

What we're looking for in you?

  • Significant recent experience of developing tools using R, R Shiny in a commercial (work) environment.
  • Good knowledge and experience of SQL, preferably in Oracle, including stored procedures, functions and triggers
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and Unit Testing in R is required.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholder expectations and deliver high-quality results
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of successful project delivery
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • 3+ years of experience in the relevant field

Desired Skills and Experience

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business, Engineering or related field
  • Experience in visualisation techniques is desirable.
  • Any experience working with energy markets and commodities data is highly desirable
  • Experience developing production-grade scalable applications in R
