KFF

KFF is the leading health policy organization in the U.S. As a one-of-a-kind information organization, we bring together substantial capabilities in policy research, polling, and journalism in one organization to meet the need for a trusted, independent source of information on national health issues—one with the scope and reach to be a counterweight to health care’s vested interests and a voice for people. We have three major program areas: policy analysis, polling, and journalism.

KFF is not a foundation and has no connection to Kaiser Permanente. Legally, we are a public charity (an endowed national nonprofit organization). We are headquartered in San Francisco with a building in Washington, DC, conference centers in both offices, and staff members in almost every state.

The Team

KFF provides information and analysis about the health care market, including trends in employer coverage, health care costs, and health care services.

Your Role

KFF is seeking a Senior Data Analyst who will work in a team environment, with a primary focus on tasks associated with the annual employer health benefits survey, including assisting with sampling, updating and implementing the survey instrument, programming, analysis, and publication of results. The analyst will also work on other projects that involve quantitative analyses, background research, writing and synthesizing results.

What You’ll Do

  • Working closely with the team, the analyst will guide research projects from ideation to publication. The analyst will provide data analysis, primarily descriptive in nature, for the projects they lead and for others as needed.
  • Work on the development, implementation, and publication of the annual employer health benefits survey, including management of contracts with vendors and outreach to respondents, assisting with development of the survey instrument, analysis of results, and publication of findings.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses, including of public survey data. Identify the best data sources available, gain a deep understanding of the data and their limitations, and develop analytic plans. Run, debug, and document code that carries out analyses.
  • Write fact-based analyses and explainers for non-scientific audiences. Work with project staff to develop, produce, and disseminate reports and other publications.
  • Respond to external inquiries from the media, policymakers, stakeholders, and others in the policy community.
  • Perform background research and literature reviews.
  • Distill complex findings through clear narrative explanations and data visualizations. Prepare various forms of graphs, tables, and summary reports based on survey data and other qualitative and quantitative information.

Minimum Desired Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Graduate degree in a related field. At least 5 years of work experience in the government, research, health care industry, or consulting. Years studying for a relevant graduate degree may substitute in part for work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the U.S. health care system, commercial health insurance or research methods.
  • Experience designing and working with complex surveys, including an understanding of weighting, sampling and statistics.
  • Proficiency in R (preferred) or other statistical applications such as STATA and SAS; experience with SQL a plus. Experience with GGPLOT2, and R Markdown a plus. Experience analyzing health care datasets, large government surveys.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently on concurrent projects and balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Inquisitive, creative, productive, positive-minded, and results oriented.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
