Role Overview:
Turing is looking for a Senior Counsel, Product, AI & Privacy to architect the legal frameworks powering an AI-driven future built by Turing. This lawyer will be a business critical strategist sitting at the intersection of product and AI innovation and privacy compliance, supporting Turing’s mission to Unleash the World's Untapped Human Potential through AI. Working alongside our engineering and product leaders who hail from some of Silicon Valley's most innovative tech companies, your substantive legal experience, understanding of tech innovation, and your ability to break down complex legal principles for Turing’s business leaders to understand, will directly support Turing's role as a partner to world's leading AI companies, while ensuring Turing adheres to industry-leading privacy, trade secret and data protection standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategic development and scaling of Turing's Privacy Program, ensuring industry-leading standards across our global operations and client engagements
- Establish and maintain business critical links between Engineering/Product, InfoSec, Product Delivery and Sales teams to embed privacy principles into our platform, products, and across client project delivery
- Drive legal strategy for product development, focusing on AI/ML applications, LLM training protocols, data protection, and emerging regulatory compliance requirements
- Support Engineering and InfoSec in developing and maintaining privacy frameworks that meet both client expectations and global regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA, and emerging AI regulations)
- Develop pragmatic legal solutions that balance innovation with compliance across various domains (HIPAA, payments, responsible AI)
- Partner with Sales and Business Development to structure commercial agreements that protect Turing's interests while addressing evolving privacy, data protection, and AI-related risks
- Serve as primary subject matter expert on global privacy laws and emerging AI regulations, providing practical guidance to internal stakeholders
- Guide product and engineering teams on implementing privacy requirements across multiple jurisdictions
- Design scalable legal frameworks that support rapid product innovation while maintaining regulatory compliance
Requirements:
- J.D. with 8+ years of legal experience, with significant focus on privacy, data protection, and product counsel in technology companies
- Deep expertise in US, EU, and UK privacy frameworks, with demonstrated experience implementing compliance programs and scaling corporate privacy programs
- Strong background in product counseling for technology companies
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex emerging technology issues while providing practical, business-oriented solutions to colleagues at all levels of an organization
- Experience implementing privacy-by-design principles in product development
- Strategic mindset with ability to balance innovation and compliance with a sense of pragmatism and business context
- Active membership in US State Bar
- Self-starter with experience supporting busy distributed teams in remote-first operations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in privacy laws of key markets beyond US/EU (e.g., Brazil, Canada, India)
- Understanding of AI/ML technologies, particularly LLMs, and demonstrated interest in the evolving regulatory landscape governing the use of those technologies
- Experience providing product counseling to leaders in AI/ML context
- Experience in identifying IP and Trade Secrets
- Track record of effectively managing outside counsel relationships and budgets
- Understanding of AI ethics, governance, and emerging regulatory frameworks
- Experience supporting remote-first companies and distributed workforces
- Experience with privacy considerations in enterprise sales and procurement processes
