Taylor is looking for an accomplished Senior Controller to join our growing team!

As Senior Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial functions of our agency, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, and guiding financial decision-making. 

Primary Responsibilities

Oversee accounting, tax, financial systems, and reporting functions

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including:
    • Prepare internal monthly financials due the 10th of each month
    • Perform Budget vs Actuals variance analysis (include details on trends/variances)
    • Reconcile BS accounts, Bank Statements, Credit Card Statements, and Production Hard/Freelancer Costs
    • Maintain supporting Balance Sheet and P&L schedules
    • Financial Management: Oversee all financial aspects of the agency, including budgeting, financial analysis, and forecasting
    • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to agency management

Lead financial planning, budgeting, and monitoring

  • Publish monthly reports on financial results, variance analyses, and updated financial forecasts, including revenue, pre-tax earnings, net earnings, and financial ratios
  • Identify and assess a consolidated summary of risks and opportunities impacting the financial forecasts
  • Develop models and provide analyses to project financial impact of business proposals
  • Provide ongoing financial analysis and reporting to the CEO, COO and SVP, Finance, as a key contributor to the business planning and monitoring process
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and manage the agency's annual budgets, and provide ongoing forecasting to guide financial decision-making
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities, revenue growth strategies, and other financial performance improvements
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the agency's financial stability and operational needs
  • Compliance: Ensure the agency's financial practices and procedures comply with accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry-specific regulations
  • Audits: work with external auditors providing supporting materials for financial audits

Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable

  • Oversee AP cycle and policy
  • Review weekly AP aging
  • Perform weekly payment selection
  • Process weekly AP run and schedule payments
  • Client Billing and Invoicing: Oversee the client billing process, ensuring accurate and timely invoices are issued
  • Vendor and Partner Management: Manage vendor contracts, negotiate terms, and oversee vendor payments and relationships
  • Subscription List: Manage all company subscriptions
  • Populate weekly management reports (AP/AR)

Payroll

  • Populate semi-monthly payroll data (processed through ADP)
  • Work closely with HR on new hire, terminations, salary changes
  • Collect and record bonus payroll data paid in December and March
  • Manage 401k EE Contributions funding
  • Manage HSA EE Contributions funding
  • Maintain knowledge of and stay abreast of changes to reporting requirements, standards, and GAAP

Communication and Business Acumen

  • Demonstrates effective leadership presence through thoughtful, polished, persuasive communication across all mediums
  • Listens well, building and maintaining relationships through respect, responsiveness, and open dialogue
  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency within the finance department

People Management

  • Within the Finance Team, ensures that effective delegation, training, guidance, and feedback is happening and that all team members' work meets agency and client performance standards
  • Gives appropriate recognition and actively works to motivate and inspire others
  • Models diversity of thought, and holds others accountable for the same
  • Serves as a primary/formal manager to one or more junior team members, providing ongoing coaching, performance management, and career development
  • Escalates thorough performance feedback for all team members up to senior management, championing strong performance and proactively addressing low performance

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field; Master's degree or CPA certification is a plus
  • Extensive experience in financial management and accounting (8+ years preferred), preferably within the PR or advertising industry
  • Experience in financial diligence a plus
  • Strong knowledge of financial software and tools (e.g., Excel, QuickBooks, accounting software)
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • In-depth understanding of accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting

Compensation

$145,000/yr - $165,000/yr, New York (10% cost-of-living reduction for lower markets)
