The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Contracts Manager to join our Research Contracting Team. In this role, you will manage the entire contracts lifecycle, including drafting and negotiating agreements of varying complexity as well as all post execution activities. You will collaborate with research leaders, scientists, subject matter experts, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure smooth, efficient and effective contracts processes.

Broad experience drafting and negotiating a diverse range of agreements, including master service agreements, material transfer agreements, collaboration agreements, and more, using department templates, playbooks and guidelines.

Directly supports several departments, and acts as the single point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, for contractual matters for such departments and providing recommendations and guidance on resolving issues.

Ability to evaluate and identify risks within contractual provisions, identify solutions to mitigate such risk and communicate findings and recommendations with the business.

Manage execution and post-execution processing of agreements, milestone payments including recording agreements in database, filing agreements with Records, and compiling tax forms and invoices for vendor finance.

Lead the Research Guest Speaker Program, develop and manage annual program budget, oversee vendor relationship, program process and operational effectiveness.

Work with Leadership, which requires excellent communication and presentation skills.

Create and implement new processes and efficiencies, as needed.
Who You Are

Bachelor's degree in a scientific, business, or legal discipline

You have a minimum of 8 years of contract experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech, university, software, or tech setting, OR minimum 6 years experience with a Master’s degree OR minimum of 3 years experience with a JD/PhD

Proven ability to work independently, influence stakeholders, and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Apply critical thinking skills to creatively solve problems both independently and in collaboration with sr. leadership, scientists, attorneys, contract negotiators and external partners.

Strong understanding of legal terminology and legal issues, including but not limited to intellectual property, compliance, privacy, indemnification, and confidentiality

Applies professional judgment to manage, complete and resolve problems of moderate to high complexity.

Proficient with Microsoft Office, gSuite Applications, SLACK, and enterprise business systems.

Advanced Degrees: MBA, or JD in a scientific, business, or legal discipline.

Experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, or university setting

Familiarity with research, software and AI-related issues and agreements.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $111,800 - $207,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
