JOB SUMMARY:
 

The Senior Completions Engineer utilizes their petrophysical knowledge and operational experience to improve frac efficiency, well performance, and economic returns while promoting a safety-first culture and adherence to regulatory and environmental standards. This role will work with operations engineering, subsurface, and the field organization to deliver economically optimized, highly efficient well completions.
PRIMARY Responsibilities:

  • Utilize leading edge technology to conduct technical analysis and evaluations of completion operations, identifying opportunities for optimization and efficiency gains

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including drilling, production, and reservoir engineering, to optimize performance and generate post-job reviews to identify areas of improvement

  • Generates business cases to leadership for technical recommendations, prioritizing long-term value while accounting for risk to enhance asset performance

  • Promote and enforce internal safety programs and enhance safety culture by implementing best practices

  • Generate AFEs and cost forecasts for all aspects of completion activities, manage capital expenditures and track well costs to ensure adherence to established budgets

  • Develop specific procedures for completion activities to achieve objectives safely and efficiently

  • Analyze and troubleshoot operational issues in the field, working with field leaders to implement effective solutions and minimize downtime

  • Work with procurement to evaluate pricing and vendor selection to support completions program

  • Ensure engineering designs meet industry standards and comply with state and federal regulations

  • Develop and maintain internal completion SOP’s and BMP’s

  • Work with data team to develop tools to monitor completion data and KPIs to ensure consistent data quality  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Strong in data analytics and evaluation of subsurface performance drivers

  • Ability to utilize industry technology such as AI, modeling software, data analytics tools, etc

  • Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to take on a broad range of tasks

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and contractors in a respectful and inclusive way

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tolerance for a high volume of time sensitive transactions

  • Team player with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within Gulfport and with outside contractors and vendors

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering or related engineering discipline

  • Minimum of 7 years in Completions Engineering with unconventional experience, developing completion procedures with a high degree of technical competency

  • Relative experience working at an Upstream E&P

  • Proficient with computer software: Microsoft Suite, WellView, PowerBI

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The ability to use a computer or phone for extended periods of time

  • Basic use of office equipment such as copier and fax machines

  • Ability to lift 10 pounds occasionally

  • Ability to concentrate

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time

  • Ability to stand and walk for periods of time, outdoors, in varying weather conditions on non-uniform ground surfaces

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in both a professional office environment and a field environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, iPads and iPhones.  This job also operates in a field environment with equipment, dust, debris, and varying weather conditions.
 

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time salary exempt position. Days and hours of work can vary due to workload/needs of the company.  Must be available to work outside of normal business hours.  Evenings and weekends are required as needed.

TRAVEL:

Frequent local and out of town travel is required for this position.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • At least 7 years of completions engineering experience
  • Experience with unconventional completions
  • Experience developing completion procedures with a high degree of technical competency
  • Relevant experience working at an upstream exploration and production company
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, WellView, and Power BI
  • Ability to work in office and field environments, including varying weather conditions and uneven ground
  • Availability to work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel frequently locally and out of town
