Senior Commercial & Strategic Sales Leader

Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic commercial leader who can strengthen Positive Energy Solar’s presence across commercial, public-sector, and residential markets. This role blends business development, strategic leadership, and sales team management. Depending on experience, the selected candidate may lead commercial sales strategy, directly manage sales personnel, or serve as a senior business development consultant cultivating high-value relationships and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
(Responsibilities will be tailored to candidate strengths and final role title)
Business Development & Market Expansion
- Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with energy service companies as well as commercial, municipal, institutional, and residential clients.
- Represent Positive Energy Solar at events, conferences, industry meetings, and networking opportunities.
- Research, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities across identified verticals.
- Respond to and support RFP processes across New Mexico.
- Develop compelling proposals and presentations that clearly communicate PES offerings, value, and ROI.
- Maintain current knowledge of incentives, financing options, tax credits, REC programs, and market conditions.
Commercial Sales Leadership & Strategy
- Shape commercial sales strategy and the development of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual revenue targets.
- Collaborate with the CEO and Sales Director on forecasts, pricing strategies, sales goals, and pipeline development.
- Analyze market trends and propose opportunities for product refinement, pricing updates, or new verticals.
- Develop sales tools, standardized processes, and repeatable workflows to elevate sales team performance.
- Work with project managers, designers, and field teams to ensure alignment between customer expectations and project delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve margins through product strategies, target marketing, procurement strategies, or process efficiency.
Sales Team Management & Mentorship (if applicable)
- Directly manage and provide regional residential or commercial sales teams with training, tools and resources.
- Mentor sales staff, provide coaching and feedback, and help individuals improve performance.
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and shared purpose across sales regions.
- Hold regular team meetings and participate in company-wide leadership activities.
- Support or lead forecasting, performance tracking, CRM accuracy, and reporting.
Customer Engagement & Deal Closure
- Conduct site visits, gather preliminary technical and financial data, and work collaboratively to shape preliminary system designs.
- Guide customers through the sales cycle with clarity, responsiveness, and professionalism.
- Handle objections, negotiate solutions, and close deals ethically and effectively.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with clients, community partners, and referral networks.
Cross-Functional Alignment
- Work closely with Design, Engineering, Project Management, Finance, and Marketing to ensure a cohesive customer experience.
- Provide input to marketing campaigns, messaging, and educational materials.
- Support continuous improvement by contributing lessons learned, feedback from the field, and insights from customer interactions.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates may qualify for this role through commercial sales experience, technical solar sales, leadership roles, or business development backgrounds. We encourage applicants with any of the following:
Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred for VP-level candidates.
- 3–10+ years of success in technical sales, business development, or commercial account management.
- Proven track record of meeting revenue goals, developing markets, or leading a sales team.
- Experience with solar PV, construction, engineering, energy services, or technical equipment preferred.
- Ability to understand and discuss technical solar concepts with confidence (training provided as needed).
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional relationship-building skills and professional communication (written and verbal).
- Strong persuasion, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical and financial concepts into clear value propositions.
- Experience with CRMs, forecasting tools, or analytics platforms.
- High degree of responsiveness, organization, and time management.
- A collaborative leadership style—coaching over commanding; influence over authority.
- Strategic thinker with operational follow-through.
Physical & Other Requirements
- Ability to perform site visits requiring climbing ladders, walking roofs, and navigating uneven ground.
- Reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel within New Mexico as needed.
