As Senior Commercial Counsel, you will be a key member of our legal team, responsible for leading and negotiating complex commercial transactions, providing strategic counsel to our internal stakeholders, and driving initiatives that support our business growth. We are looking for someone with significant B2B SaaS experience, honed in top-tier legal environments and academic institutions. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic settings, leverages their creativity and persuasive skills, and has experience in heavily regulated industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Negotiate Deals: Take the lead in structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex customer and vendor agreements
  • Provide Strategic Guidance: Advise internal stakeholders on commercial strategy, risk mitigation, and regulatory implications, ensuring alignment with our business objectives
  • Autonomous Decision-Making: Exercise significant autonomy in managing legal matters, making calls, and providing practical solutions tailored to our rapidly evolving business environment
  • Regulatory Compliance: Significant experience with managing data privacy and processing risk (including GDPR, CCPA, etc;); negotiate deals with regulated business (including healthcare (HIPAA)), including business associate agreements, identifying compliance risks and collaborating with relevant departments
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with teams across the organization, including sales, product, finance, and operations, to support key business initiatives and strategic partnerships
  • Creative Problem-Solving: Apply your legal acumen and innovative thinking to craft solutions that address both legal and business priorities, persuasively advocating for outcomes that drive business growth
  • External Partner Management: Engage with and manage external counsel when necessary, optimizing efficiency and quality of legal services

Qualifications:

  • Education & Credentials: JD from a top law school
  • Experience: 7+ years of legal experience, with a significant portion spent in top law firms and in-house roles. Proven track record of handling SaaS B2B transactions is essential
  • Industry Expertise: Experience negotiating deals with customers in regulated sectors with a deep understanding of the legal landscape in these industries
  • Autonomy & Judgment: Demonstrated ability to work independently and make informed decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong business judgment with a focus on balancing legal risks with business outcomes. Capable of understanding what matters and effectively communicating that perspective
  • Creativity & Persuasiveness: Proven capability in crafting innovative legal strategies, and the ability to persuasively advocate for solutions that align with both legal and business objectives

Compensation

  • At Anyscale, we take a market-based approach to compensation. We are data-driven, transparent, and consistent. The target salary for this role is $178,436 - $260,000. As the market data changes over time, the target salary for this role may be adjusted.
