The Senior Cloud and Hybrid Network Engineer will design, deploy, and manage secure networking architectures across diverse DoD cloud infrastructure and classified on-premise environments. In this role, you will bridge the gap between heritage virtual machine (VM) architectures, modern cloud-native containerized deployments, and localized tactical hardware. You will be instrumental in architecting secure connections across varying security boundaries, establishing robust communication pathways between legacy and modern VMs, and ensuring seamless connectivity to Kubernetes clusters across multiple isolated systems.
- All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
- This is an on-site position. Requiring at least 4 days in office, based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location.
Key Responsibilities
- Secure Cloud Networking: Architect and implement secure, compliant network connections across secure and classified cloud enclaves, specifically including IL-5 (CUI) and IL-6 (Secret) environments.
- On-Premise & Hybrid Connectivity: Configure classified on-premise systems to mirror cloud environments, and establish secure, high-speed connections between on-premise infrastructure and cloud providers through transport systems like STREN / SDREN.
- Hybrid VM Infrastructure: Design and manage complex virtual networks to ensure reliable communication and data transfer between legacy/heritage VM environments and new cloud-based VM deployments.
- Kubernetes Integration: Configure and maintain network routing, ingress/egress, and service mesh connectivity for Kubernetes clusters deployed within and across isolated, high-security systems.
- Cross-Domain Security: Navigate strict boundary limitations and support the implementation of cross-domain solutions for secure data flow between unclassified, CUI, and classified environments.
- System Modernization: Collaborate with software and systems engineering teams to support the transition of tactical combat systems into microservices and cloud-native deployments.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- 7+ years of full-time professional experience
- Cloud Platforms: Proven experience configuring networking and security in major cloud providers (Azure highly preferred), specifically within government/classified regions.
- Network Architecture/Protocols: Deep understanding of virtual networking (VNETs, VPCs, peering, VPNs, ExpressRoute), hardware-based routing, and connecting disparate, highly secured environments as well as more than two types of networking protocols (QoS, Multicast, BGP , OSPF, VRFs, MPLS (optional), VXLAN/EVPN, IPv6)
- Container Orchestration: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes networking concepts (CNI, LoadBalancers, Network Policies, Service Mesh).
- Legacy/Modern Integration: Experience troubleshooting and managing networking for both legacy hypervisors/VMs and modern containerized workloads.
- Direct experience with Navy combat system networks, specifically Aegis or Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS), is highly desired.
- Clearance: Holding an active U.S. Government security clearance (Secret or above) is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
- DoD 8570/8140 compliance certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP)
- Demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional relationships across engineering, security, compliance, and other stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including developing strategic plans of action, building and leading teams to execute against those plans, and effectively communicating progress and priorities across all levels of the organization.
- Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or other technical field is strongly preferred.
- Familiar with Agentic AI methodologies and Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Proven past performance leading technical teams in fast-paced, challenging environments, with Navy systems and government program offices.
- Experience with Jenkins, Jira, and the Atlassian tool suite.
- Familiarity with foundational networking concepts such as routing, switching, identity services, intrusion detection, and firewall.
- Familiarity deploying virtual machines in VMWare vSphere environments including networking configuration.
- Familiarity designing complex software development environments including submodules, remote dependencies, and mixed-code deployments.
- Familiarity deploying virtual machines and/or containers into Azure cloud environments including networking configuration.
- Solid analytical abilities, coupled with a strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguous situations.
- Excellence in oral, written, and technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts.
- Initiative, creativity, reliability, teamwork.
- Strong organization and planning skills.
