The Role

Our client is a US-based company focused on driving the next generation of vehicle and mobile technology.

We’re looking for a highly experienced Senior CI/CD Engineer to lead and evolve our deployment automation, infrastructure-as-code, and developer tooling. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves reducing engineering toil, shipping stable code at speed, and building pipelines that scale across multiple teams and environments.

• Design, build, and optimize pipelines from scratch using GitHub Actions and CircleCI.
• Implement conditional workflows, reusable templates, and parameterized jobs.
• Automate deployment steps (e.g., DB migrations, asset builds, health checks) for Ruby on Rails monoliths.
  

Automate Infrastructure & Environments

• Use Terraform (modular design, remote backends) to manage AWS infrastructure.
• Automate ECS deployments (Fargate) using AWS CLI, Copilot, or Terraform modules.
• Integrate infrastructure updates into CI/CD pipelines and support GitOps workflows.
  

Scripting & Dev Tooling

• Write production-grade scripts in Ruby and Bash to automate environment tasks and developer workflows.
• Code AWS Lambda functions (not just configure them), supporting microservice execution.
• Manage environment configuration (YAML, JSON, tfvars, .env) and feature toggles for multiple stages.
  

Docker & Artifact Management

• Build, tag, and push optimized Docker images using multistage builds.
• Leverage ECR with lifecycle policies, vulnerability scanning, and caching for faster pipelines.
  

Monitoring & Observability

• Maintain 99.999% uptime across Dev, Staging, and Production environments.
• Use Datadog for health checks, alerting, and deployment verification.
• Track and report on metrics like deployment frequency, lead time, and MTTR.
  

Security, Compliance & Quality Gates

• Implement pipeline security practices (e.g., least-privilege IAM, secret encryption).
• Integrate open-source license checks and container scanning tools like Trivy, Wiz, or GitHub Advanced Security.
• Ensure audit logging, artifact integrity, and compliance gates are built into the CI/CD process.
  

Progressive Delivery & GitOps

• Design strategies for canary, blue/green, and feature flag-based deployments.
• Apply GitOps principles (PR-driven infra, continuous reconciliation).
• Use guardrails (e.g., OPA, Sentinel, Conftest) to enforce infra policy in pipelines.
  

Developer Experience & Collaboration

• Collaborate with app developers, DevOps, QA, and security teams.
• Attend squad standups and recommend CI/CD workflow improvements.
• Review PRs related to pipelines and IaC, providing actionable feedback.
• Mentor junior engineers and help teams adopt CI/CD best practices.
  

• 5+ years of DevOps/CI/CD experience.
• Proficient in Ruby and Bash scripting.
• Deep experience with CI/CD pipeline architecture (min. 2 years designing pipelines from scratch).
• 3+ years hands-on experience with CircleCI and GitHub Actions.
• Strong Docker knowledge, including multistage builds and ECR usage.
• 5+ years of Terraform experience (modular, backends, debugging state).
• Proven AWS ECS (Fargate) deployment expertise (min. 2 years).
• Experience coding AWS Lambda functions directly.
• Daily use of Datadog for deployment health, monitoring, and alerting.
• Solid understanding of security in pipelines: IAM, secrets mgmt, audit logging.
  

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience supporting large Rails monoliths.
• GitOps tooling and practices.
• Familiarity with Rails-specific testing tools (RSpec, Capybara).
• Linting/security tools (e.g., Brakeman, RuboCop, CodeClimate).
• Working knowledge of Python.

What we offer

• Totally remote, full-time (40h/week)
• Monday to Friday, flexible work hours (but around Central or East Coast Standard Time office hours)
• Long-term, no end date contractor agreement
• Payment in USD, by-weekly or monthly - your choice
• PTO: 1.67 days paid time off per calendar month worked and national holidays of the country where you are living.
