Senior CFD Engineer

At Aurecon, we are optimistic about the future. We are thinkers, solvers and collaborators who work with our clients to deliver the infrastructure and assets that strengthen communities and create a sustainable future.

Demand for CFD work is growing, particularly across major data centre projects. This role will add immediate delivery capability to our national Sustainability and Building Performance team while helping shape and grow our CFD capability. It is an opportunity for an experienced CFD practitioner who can consult, not just model, and who enjoys turning complex analysis into practical advice for clients and project teams.

What you’ll do

As a Senior CFD Engineer, you’ll work across technically challenging building performance, ventilation and infrastructure projects. You’ll combine advanced modelling capability with consulting judgement, clear communication and strong project delivery.

  • Lead and deliver Computational Fluid Dynamics studies from problem definition and model set-up through to interpretation, reporting and client advice.
  • Use ANSYS CFX and/or ANSYS Fluent to investigate airflow, ventilation, thermal performance and other fluid-flow challenges.
  • Contribute to major data centre, buildings, Defence and broader building-performance projects across Australia and potentially New Zealand
  • Work with clients and multidisciplinary project teams to define the right CFD approach, challenge assumptions and translate analysis into practical design recommendations.
  • Prepare clear technical reports, presentations and documentation that communicate methodology, limitations, findings and recommendations.
  • Manage assigned CFD scopes, priorities and deliverables while maintaining technical quality and meeting project commitments.
  • Lead technically challenging conversations with clients and stakeholders and support projects through design development and delivery.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, share knowledge and contribute to a growing national CFD technical community.
  • Help strengthen CFD methods, quality processes and capability across the business.

What you’ll bring

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or another closely related discipline.
  • Strong Computational Fluid Dynamics experience and the ability to work independently on complex modelling assignments.
  • Hands-on experience using ANSYS CFD software, with capability in ANSYS CFX and/or ANSYS Fluent.
  • Experience applying CFD within building services, building performance, ventilation or a related engineering context.
  • A track record of delivering projects and using CFD as a problem-solving and decision-support tool, rather than focusing only on model production.
  • Strong consulting, communication and stakeholder-management skills, including confidence leading technical discussions with clients.
  • The ability to interpret modelling results, identify limitations and communicate clear, practical recommendations.
  • Experience managing technical work, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and balancing quality, programme and commercial requirements.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to mentor and support developing engineers.

How we support your growth

We believe your career should be a rewarding adventure. You’ll join a team with an immediate pipeline of CFD work, including major data centre opportunities, and access to a growing technical community within Aurecon. You’ll have the opportunity to deepen your specialist capability, mentor junior engineers and help shape how CFD supports our clients and projects nationally.

You will tackle complex engineering challenges in an environment that supports your ambitions and where we hold ourselves, and each other, to high standards. Recognised by the AFR as a Best Place to Work in 2026, we embrace diverse perspectives and flexible ways of working, giving you the opportunity to make a real impact.
