Get to Know Us
Horizon3 is a fast-growing, remote cybersecurity company dedicated to the mission of enabling organizations to proactively find, fix and verify exploitable attack vectors before criminals exploit them. Our flagship product, the NodeZeroTM platform, delivers production-safe autonomous pentests and other key assessment operations that scale across the largest internal, external, cloud, and hybrid cloud environments. NodeZero has been adopted by organizations of all sizes, from small educational institutions to government agencies and Global 100 enterprises. It is used by IT Ops/SecOps teams, consulting pentesters, and MSSPs and MSPs.
We are a fusion of former U.S. Special Operations cyber operators, startup engineers & operators, and formerly frustrated cybersecurity practitioners. We're committed to helping solve our common security problems: ineffective security tools and false positives, resulting in alert fatigue, blind spots, "checkbox” security culture, cybersecurity skills shortage, and the long lead time and expense of hiring outside consultants. Collectively, we are a team of learn it alls, committed to a culture of respect, collaboration, ownership, and results.
What You’ll Do
We are seeking a Senior Engineer to be the technical expert on our Business Applications team. The Business Applications (BizApps) team is the operational backbone for organizational collaboration, system connectivity, and process automation at Horizon3. We partner with every department to provide the platforms, guardrails, and integrations that eliminate manual toil safely and efficiently. We own and administer Jira, Jira Service Management (JSM), Confluence, Rovo, Loom, Glean, and our citizen development platform, Workato. We hold ourselves to least-privilege access, data privacy, and auditable data flows in everything we build.
In this role, you will partner with business teams to turn pain points into working solutions. You will gather requirements with empathy, apply human-centered, API-first, and secure-by-design principles, select the best-fit tooling from our stack (the Atlassian suite, Workato, custom AWS automation tooling, and our AI platforms), and own each solution end to end, from discovery through production support.
This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Applications. You will work alongside our IT Admins and AI Admins as their technical escalation point and mentor.
This role will be responsible for:
Lead discovery with stakeholders across the company, using interviews and process walkthroughs to define the problem, who is affected, and how success will be measured
Translate pain points into scoped problem statements and recommend the best-fit approach (native feature, Workato, or custom automation), explaining tradeoffs in speed, maintainability, and risk
Design solutions using human-centered, API-first, event-driven, and secure-by-design principles, and document architecture decisions so others can support and extend them
Own solutions end to end: design, build, test, release, monitor, support, and retire
Build and maintain Workato recipes and connectors with resilient error handling, end-to-end monitoring, and auditable data flows
Build custom automation tooling and AWS middleware where native features and Workato cannot meet the requirement
Design and evolve complex workflows, custom fields, automations, and service management configurations in Jira, JSM, and Confluence beyond day-to-day administration
Architect and evolve our governed citizen development platform, Workato, including standardized frameworks, templates, reusable connectors, service accounts, and sandboxes, and review team-built automations against established guardrails
Enforce least-privilege access in every solution through role-based access control (RBAC), appropriate read/write scopes, and service accounts in place of individual credentials, partnering with Security and IT Engineering
Serve as the technical escalation point for IT Admins and AI Admins, review their work, and mentor them toward engineering-level scope
Partner with AI Admins and the Senior Manager to apply Glean, Rovo, Claude, Gemini, and Bedrock capabilities to complex business automation needs
Write runbooks, design documents, and handoff materials that allow Admins to support what you build
Report on delivery velocity, integration reliability, and adoption to the Senior Manager and stakeholders
Demonstrate a commitment to integrity, process improvement, and customer satisfaction
Must have demonstrated experience owning solutions from requirements gathering through production support, leading complex, high-impact projects with little to no supervision
Must have hands-on experience building and maintaining integrations on an iPaaS platform (Workato strongly preferred), including error handling, monitoring, and secure credential handling
Must have working knowledge of APIs, webhooks, data models, and REST and event-driven integration patterns, and the ability to write custom code or scripts where iPaaS cannot meet the requirement
Must have hands-on experience engineering workflows, custom fields, and automations in Jira, JSM, and Confluence, or comparable work management and ITSM platforms
Must have experience gathering requirements from non-technical teams and turning them into design documents and testable acceptance criteria
Must have an understanding of RBAC, least-privilege access, service account practices, and data privacy as they apply to integrations and automations
Must have experience mentoring more junior engineers or administrators through design guidance and work review
Must be able to explain design decisions and tradeoffs clearly in writing to both technical and non-technical audiences
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of experience in IT, business systems engineering, integration, or automation engineering
3+ years of experience building and supporting production integrations or automations
Experience supporting a distributed or remote-first workforce
Required Tech Stack Experience
Jira, Jira Service Management, and Confluence (Atlassian suite) or comparable work management and ITSM platforms
Workato or a similar iPaaS platform
APIs, webhooks, and REST and event-driven integration patterns
Scripting or programming language for custom automation (Python, JavaScript, Ruby)
Cloud services for custom middleware, such as AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge) or similar
What Sets You Apart?
You have built governed self-service or citizen development programs where business teams automate safely within guardrails
You have designed JSM service catalogs, request types, and SLAs that measurably improved response and resolution times
You have built agents, Projects, Skills, or Gems on Glean, Rovo, Claude, Gemini, or AWS Bedrock for real business use cases, not just experimentation
You have built audit-ready integrations in an environment subject to SOC 2 or similar compliance requirements
You have a track record of developing administrators or junior engineers into higher-scope roles
Relevant certifications such as Atlassian, Workato, AWS, or similar
Experience in high-growth SaaS or cybersecurity companies

Horizon3.ai Insights
What We Do
Horizon3.ai's mission is to help you find and fix attack vectors before attackers can exploit them. NodeZero, our autonomous penetration testing solution, enables organizations to continuously assess the security posture of their enterprise, including external, identity, on-prem, IoT, and cloud attack surfaces. Like APTs, ransomware, and other threat actors, our algorithms discover and fingerprint your attack surface, identifying the ways exploitable vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, harvested credentials, and dangerous product defaults can be chained together to facilitate a compromise. NodeZero is a true self-service SaaS offering that is safe to run in production and requires no persistent or credentialed agents. You will see your enterprise through the eyes of the attacker, identify your ineffective security controls, and ensure your limited resources are spent fixing problems that can actually be exploited. Founded in 2019 by industry, US Special Operations, and US National Security veterans, Horizon3.ai is headquartered in San Francisco, CA, and made in the USA.
