Senior Build Engineer

Plano, TX | Hybrid Option
Our Toyota Connected Labs team is looking for a Build Engineer to design, implement, and maintain build systems. Ideal candidates will apply their knowledge in a highly energized, fast-paced, and innovative environment while working to collaborate with our teams to improve developer experience.  

Responsibilities: 

• Design, implement, and maintain build systems. 

• Optimize build performance and reliability. 

• Collaborate with teams to improve developer experience. 

• Troubleshoot and resolve build issues. 

• Automate build and deployment processes. 

• Ensure build systems are scalable and maintainable. 

• Monitor and improve build system performance. 

Required Qualifications: 

• 5+ years of production experience working as a Build Engineer or Software Engineer 

• Proven experience with complex build system in production environments. (Ex: Bazel, Buck Pants) 

• Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining build systems using Bazel, Buck, and/or Pants 

• Experience integrating Bazel, Buck, and/or Pants 

•  into workflows 

• Strong understanding of build and release processes. 

• Proficiency in Rust or C/C++ 

• Experience with CI/CD platforms and tools like Gitlab and gitlab runners. 

• Experience developing tools for large monorepo-based codebases 

• Experience with Remote Execution Platforms 

• Experience with bash scripting and writing Makefiles 

• Experience with linkers and their configurations, particularly in the context of using Bazel to build projects in languages such as Rust, C, or C++. 

• Experience in leading initiatives under direction 

• Demonstrates advanced problem-solving, troubleshooting, decision making skills 

• Ability to apply systems thinking to understand interdependencies and design solutions that achieve results 

• Ability to learn and apply new technologies, programming practices, patterns, and methods 

• Experience mentoring, providing technical guidance, and training more junior team members 

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks/assignments 

• Organized and detail-oriented 

• Ability to develop healthy working relationships and collaborate with peers and leaders 

• Exhibits integrity and high standards in work quality 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
