ScottishPower Customer Business is recruiting a Senior Budget Analyst to join a unique Budget and Monitoring team situated within UK Operations. Reporting to the Business Improvement Manager, the role is accountable for leading, coordinating, and governing key elements of the Budget, Rev, Business Plan, and Monitoring cycles.

The Senior Budget Analyst will lead contributions to budget and forecast cycles, delivering comprehensive analysis and commentary, and own the development and maintenance of complex budget models that underpin bottom-up planning exercises across the Customer Business.

What you'll be doing

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Own and manage the creation of purchase orders (POs), delegated purchases, and PAOs in line with business requirements, providing effective financial control over IT CAPEX budgets of c£24m and OPEX budgets of c£20m
  • Monitor framework arrangements to ensure sufficient budget coverage for monthly expenditure, proactively initiating extensions to contract end dates and values within agreed timescales
  • Lead the analysis of monthly financial performance, assessing actuals against budget and forecast, identifying risks, opportunities, and variances and determining mitigating actions
  • Oversee and reconcile the Accenture invoicing process at CR level, ensuring costs are accurately aligned to approved Dossiers, correctly coded, and fully reflected in the general ledger, resolving issues where discrepancies arise
  • Support the production of the monthly budget pack for review with the Head of Business Planning and Processes and the COE Director, ensuring financial position and variances are clearly understood, with concise commentary on movements, risks, and outcomes
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust processes for data collection and financial tracking, producing fit for purpose trackers to support weekly and monthly reporting requirements.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of financial and reporting processes ensuring they are fit for purpose, producing accurate results and analysis.  Own and maintain process documentation to support stakeholders and ensure consistency of application
  • Where required, deputise for the Business Improvement Manager and take the lead role in monthly review meetings, representing the financial position and responding to challenge
  • Exercise independent judgement and initiative

  • Highly numerate with strong analytical, financial modelling and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced practical knowledge of IT desktop tools, including advanced spreadsheet modelling skills
  • Proven record of successfully working independently with minimal direction to deliver business results on time with a high degree of accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail
  • Actively contributes to a positive team environment and identifies and drives opportunities for continuous improvement in processes and ways of working
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships, provide constructive challenge, and influence decision making
  • Resilient and organised, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables, prioritise effectively, and operate under pressure to tight deadlines

Minimum Criteria

  • Educated to degree level in a financial discipline or equivalent experience 
  • Advanced Excel spreadsheet modelling skills
  • Highly numerate and analytical mindset
  • Proven track record of precision, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables and remained focused on priorities and delivery
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
