Scope
The Welding and Joining Engineer will be responsible to optimize the welding and joining processes by influencing designs using manufacturing best practices and investigating feasibility using CAD. This role will work closely with Product Engineering, New Product Introduction, Quality, and other cross-functional teams to ensure the Body in White Joining strategy is successful and sustainable.
Responsibilities.
- Develop and implement quality control plans for Body in White lines including Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) focused on joint integrity and sustainability.
- Plan, and execute joint definition from a design perspective and from a technical perspective.
- Develop weld schedules and secure a sustaining system by performing lab test, lineside control, visual inspection, in-line control, NDT, chisel verification, and programmed destructive testing.
- Effectively secure balance safety, quality, throughput, cost, and people to provide maximum value to the customer and the company.
- Develop and implement training programs for production associates.
- Prepare and procure all items for station readiness for Body in White line launches.
- Utilize analytic problem-solving skills.
- Secure all deliverables such as Spare Parts, as-built layouts, process definition, PLPs.
Requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, preferred welding or materials engineering.
- Expert on Resistance Spot Welding, NDT, Adhesives, Steels and different body architectures.
- 5 -8 years of experience in Body in White high volume production.
- Experience in the automotive Body in White equipment design/ sustaining is a must.
- Ability to influence outcomes and drive initiatives in complex environments.
- Possesses strong presentation skills and communicates clearly and professionally at various levels both inside and outside the company.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, and a 3D CAD software.
- 75% Domestic and International Travel Required for the first year, 40% for the second year and on.
