We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who brings experience with PHP (Laravel preferred) but also thrives with modern languages, frameworks, and architectures. You’ll work in a collaborative, senior-level engineering team that values systems thinking, C4 architecture modelling, and clear estimation practices.
This role is full-time and offers home working flexibility.
Your future role will include
- Designing and implementing scalable, maintainable, and well-tested systems using PHP (Laravel) and other modern frameworks and languages.
- Using C4 modelling and architectural thinking to design new features and systems.
- Participating in the full development lifecycle: concept, estimation, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and optimisation.
- Working closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-value features on time.
- Championing systems thinking, helping ensure technical choices align with business goals.
- Maintaining a strong focus on code quality, performance, and security.
You’re going to need this to be successful in this role
- 5+ years of professional development experience, with experience in PHP/Laravel.
- Ideally, 3+ years of experience in Golang. Alternatively, professional experience with multiple modern languages or frameworks (e.g., .NET Core, Kotlin).
- Solid understanding of OOP, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
- Experience creating or working with C4 diagrams and system architecture documentation.
- Proven ability to estimate work accurately and deliver within agreed timelines.
- Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases, including performance tuning.
- Proficiency with Git-based workflows and Linux environments.
- Experience with o11y tools.
- Advanced English.
It’s nice if you also have
- Experience with Docker and containerised deployments in a Terraform environment.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS), certification is nice to have.
- Background in event-driven systems or microservices.
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and other Atlassian tools.
