Introduction:

At VGV, we believe that building very good technology starts with a culture of excellence, collaboration, humility, and openness – and of course, have a very good time while doing it.  We place our company values and culture at the forefront of everything we do.

Rising to prominence as the foremost Flutter experts, VGV is at an exciting stage of growth as we expand our global presence and our range of strategic services. Our mission is to lead the most influential companies through new digital frontiers and improve the relationship between technology and those that create, manage, and experience it. VGV’s client roster spans industries, including Toyota, Google, Dow Jones, JSX, Betterment, and Norwegian Cruise Lines.

People come to work at VGV to solve challenging problems with the newest technology, alongside some of the best talent in the industry, and in a culture that remains steadfastly dedicated to its employees.

We are seeking a senior backend engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of our client’s next-generation customer loyalty and offers platform. This role involves significant migration and integration work, foundational system building, and supporting a phased rollout of critical new capabilities.

You will play a key role in:

  • Leading the migration to a modern loyalty and offers platform.
  • Integrating the new loyalty platform with our Point of Sale (POS) system, including loyalty adapters and offer/discount processing flows.
  • Designing and implementing new, high-performance services within the core platform architecture.
  • Supporting a phased rollout, prioritizing non-loyalty offers before full loyalty functionality and member migration.

What you’ll do

  • Design and build robust backend services for critical loyalty and offer flows (e.g., earning points, redemption, discounts, retro credit, adjustments).
  • Implement and refine complex integrations between:
    • The core platform and third-party loyalty/offer engines.
    • The core platform and POS systems.
    • The loyalty platform and downstream marketing/CRM systems.
  • Model resilient and transaction-safe workflows using modern orchestration frameworks (e.g., sagas, retries, idempotency).
  • Utilize event-driven architectures to manage and process events related to orders, redemptions, and customer activity.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Personalization, and Capabilities teams as an embedded engineering expert.
  • Partner with external agencies on defining offer schemas, campaign templates, and system guardrails.
  • Define and implement a clear data contract (event and identity) across all customer touchpoints (app, web, POS) and internal/external systems.
  • Contribute to data migration strategies:
    • Identity resolution and data de-duplication.
    • Mapping existing balances and tiers.
    • Handling complex edge cases and data cleansing.
  • Contribute to technical design documentation, architecture decisions, and operational runbooks.
  • Write high-quality automated tests and ensure all integrations meet established engineering and QA standards.

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with a focus on building and scaling customer-facing, transactional systems.
  • Strong proficiency in a modern backend programming language (e.g., Go, Java, Python, C#) and an ability to quickly adapt to our primary technology stack.
  • Significant experience integrating with and managing complex third-party platforms (e.g., loyalty, payments, POS, or similar transactional systems).
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts:
    • Idempotency, retries, and eventual consistency.
    • Workflow orchestration frameworks.
    • Event-driven architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of the following domains:
    • Loyalty or customer rewards systems.
    • Point of Sale (POS) integrations.
    • Offer or discount engines.
  • Comfort with reading, designing, and evolving APIs and adapters, including working with legacy systems when necessary.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively with client engineers, product managers, and external partners.
  • Experience in the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR), retail, or e-commerce industries is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience using AI technologies, tools, or workflows to accelerate delivery, improve quality and enhance products, services, and internal processes is a nice to have.
Company Values
  • Raise the Bar
  • Grow with Grit
  • Build Momentum
  • Collaborate with Candor
  • Enjoy the Ride
