Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

In this role, you will support the team in Markets Sales Technology and help build secure, scalable platforms for the next generation of front-office workflows. In this role, you will design and deliver Java-based services, integration patterns, and backend capabilities that help Markets Sales teams serve clients, manage risk, and deliver change more effectively. You will be part of a greenfield transformation where modern engineering, event-driven architecture, workflow orchestration, and AI-enabled productivity help simplify complex workflows, improve delivery speed, and drive better outcomes.

To be successful as a Senior Backend Engineer - AVP, you should:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in Java 21 or higher, Spring Boot, object-oriented design, microservices, REST APIs, and scalable enterprise application development

  • Build resilient backend services using event-driven patterns, Kafka messaging, API integrations, caching, data access, well-defined service boundaries, and clear integration contracts

  • Apply practical engineering practices across JUnit, Maven, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, test-driven development, code quality, observability, monitoring, and secure delivery

  • Work confidently with containerized and cloud-ready platforms, including Docker, Kubernetes, deployment automation, disciplined release practices, and production support in regulated enterprise environment

  • Partner closely with product, architecture, UI, DevOps, and global engineering teams, bringing clear communication, ownership, adaptability, and continuous improvement to deliver clean, scalable, well-tested backend solutions

Other highly valued skills include:

  • Experience in financial services, especially Markets, front-office workflows, Sales Technology platforms, onboarding, or Fixed Income products and processes

  • Full-stack capability, including the ability to make targeted React/TypeScript UI changes, collaborate on API contracts, understand modern front-end integration needs, and contribute across backend services, user interfaces, and end-to-end delivery

  • Exposure to workflow orchestration and performance-oriented backend design, including process automation, approvals, exceptions, audit trails, service-level objectives, distributed data, caching, and platforms such as Camunda or Apache Ignite

  • Understanding of risk and control expectations, cybersecurity, resiliency, auditability, operational readiness, and change governance within regulated enterprise technology delivery

  • Exposure to AI-assisted engineering, prompt-based development, and productivity tools that improve delivery quality, code maintainability, and team efficiency

You may be assessed on the critical skills needed for success in this role, including risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job-specific technical skills.

This role is located in our Whippany, New Jersey office.

Minimum Salary: $120,000

Maximum Salary: $175,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

This position is eligible for an incentive award.
