Senior Backend Engineer / AI Engineer – Ineexa team

We at Holycode are currently looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Backend Engineer / AI Engineer to join ineexa, a Zürich based startup at the forefront of digitizing the construction industry in Switzerland.
About the company:
Ineexa is a Zurich-based startup that enables building automation installers to generate offers in hours rather than days or weeks. Their platform automates the heavy lifting of the bidding process by parsing complex construction tender PDFs, identifying relevant positions, and suggesting appropriate products from a database of over one million items. With a wide range of features to fine-tune the final proposal, the application allows installers to shift their focus from manual tasks to expert judgment resulting in a faster, smarter, and more consistent offer generation process.
About the role:
They are looking for a talented and experienced Senior Backend Engineer with a strong focus on AI to join their growing team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing the next generation of their AI-powered features. You will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects that have a direct impact on their product and users.

Key Responsibilities:

Your primary focus in the first 6-12 months will be on two key projects that are critical to their strategic roadmap:

• PDF Parsing: You will lead the development of a sophisticated PDF parsing solution to extract structured data from "Leistungsverzeichnisse" LVs - complex, multi-page tender documents. The goal is to achieve a high degree of accuracy in identifying and extracting key attributes such as BKP chapters, positions, variants, manufacturers, and product models, as well as understanding the contextual information within the documents.
• Product Matching: You will help design and build an intelligent product matching engine to accurately map parsed items to their extensive product database of over 1 million items. This will involve a hybrid approach, combining keyword-based search with advanced semantic search and machine learning techniques to deliver highly relevant product suggestions.

Long-term, you will also have the opportunity to work on a variety of other features and contribute to the core development of their Java-based backend.

Your Profile:

• Proven experience in building and deploying production-ready Python projects.
• Solid understanding of and hands-on experience with the APIs of major LLM providers (OpenAI, Google, Anthropic).
• Strong expertise in API design and implementation, particularly with RESTful APIs.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
• A deep understanding of prompt engineering and experience in building and optimizing ML pipelines.
• A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, with the ability to balance quality and speed.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.
• Fluency in English is required.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Java (Spring Boot) is a significant plus. Knowledge of Java would be beneficial for integrating the AI features into their main application and for contributing to other parts of the product in the long run.
• German language skills would be the cherry on the cake
