The Role
As a Senior Backend Engineer at NymCard, you will play a key role in designing and implementing high-volume, low-latency APIs, and working across teams to deliver scalable, secure solutions that power frictionless payments. You will engage with Engineering, DevOps and Product teams from design through production support, while building new features at scale and collaborating in a trustful, agile environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement high-volume, low-latency APIs.
- Engage with Engineering, DevOps, Marketing teams throughout design, implementation, testing, deployment and production support.
- Work with engineers across the company to build new features at large scale.
- Enjoy team collaboration within a trustful culture.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5+ years of software development experience working with distributed projects and technologies (Java).
- Hands-on experience with team management/leadership.
- Experience with any NoSQL/RDBMS (Mongo, SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL etc.).
- Awareness of application security principles including secure coding standards and practices.
- Familiarity with various API design and architectural patterns (API Gateway, OpenAPI, REST).
- Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application.
Additional Skills:
- Experience with stream-processing systems such as Apache Kafka, Amazon SQS, Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
- Upper-intermediate (B2) or higher English level.
- Agile enthusiast (Scrum) knowledge, estimation practices.
Would be a plus:
- Experience in payments, ISO8583 message format.
- Experience with HSM (Thales preferred).
- Knowledge of PCI Compliance standards.
- Knowledge of CI/CD.
- Knowledge in Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of Cloud (Google, AWS, Azure) and Docker.
This role is remote based in Ukraine.
Skills Required
- 5+ years of software development experience with distributed systems and Java
- Hands-on team management or technical leadership experience
- Experience with a NoSQL or relational database, such as MongoDB, SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL
- Awareness of application security principles and secure coding practices
- Familiarity with API design and architectural patterns, including API Gateway, OpenAPI, and REST
- Understanding of scalable application design principles
- Experience with stream-processing or messaging systems such as Apache Kafka, Amazon SQS, or Google Cloud Pub/Sub
- Upper-intermediate B2 or higher English proficiency
- Knowledge of Agile Scrum and estimation practices
- Payments experience and ISO8583 message format knowledge
- HSM experience, preferably with Thales
- Knowledge of PCI Compliance standards
- Knowledge of CI/CD
- Knowledge of Kubernetes
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure
- Knowledge of Docker
