Work on Technology That Protects What Matters

At SiXworks, we build secure digital solutions that support Defence and National Security missions. Our teams work on complex problems where reliability, security, and speed of innovation matter.

We’re looking for a Senior Azure Platform Engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical challenges and wants their work to have real operational impact.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Azure Platform Engineer, you’ll help design, build, and deliver secure digital solutions in highly secure environments. You’ll work alongside engineers, architects, and delivery specialists to develop technology that enables faster, safer decision-making for critical operations.

Your work may include:

  • Design, administer and maintain Azure infrastructure across Azure Kubernetes Service, Virtual Machines, Application Gateways, Database, Storage and Networking Services.
  • Architect and manage hybrid and multi-cloud connectivity, including S2S VPN, BGP Routing and Azure Virtual WAN hub configurations.
  • Ensure and apply security best practices for cloud infrastructure including Azure Key Vault, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure RBAC and network segmentation.
  • Work closely with project stakeholders and operational support teams to design and deliver solutions and in a timely fashion.
  • Configure and maintain Kubernetes environments to support scalable, resilient and secure application deployments.
  • Lead the design and construction of CI/CD pipelines to streamline the deployment process and enhance development efficiency.
  • Support both on-premise and cloud platforms, ensuring consistency, reliability and maintainability through automation and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Implement robust monitoring solutions to ensure the health and performance of platform services.
  • Manage repository systems and version control to facilitate collaboration and code management.
  • Drive automation initiatives to optimize workflow processes and reduce manual intervention.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to the development team on best practices for utilising platform offerings effectively.
  • Support initiatives related to platform maintainability, supportability, security, and scalability/performance as the platform evolves.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to continually enhance platform capabilities and practices.

What We’re Looking For

We value people who take ownership, think critically, and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team tackling complex challenges. You don’t need to tick every box, but we’re particularly interested in people with skills/experience in:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Integration, or related roles.
  • Strong Azure background - ideally holding both Azure Administrator (AZ-104) and Azure Solutions Architect (AZ-305) certifications.
  • Deep expertise in Azure networking: Virtual WAN, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateways, BGP Routing, NSGs and Private Endpoints.
  • Strong proficiency in Kubernetes configuration and container orchestration techniques.
  • Proficiency in Terraform and HashiCorp tooling (Packer, Vault) for automation.
  • Experience with JFrog products (Artifactory/XRay/Runtime) and/or Coder would be ideal.
  • Strong expertise in designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Github Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or similar.
  • Solid understanding of version control systems, preferably Git, and repository management practices.
  • Proven track record of driving automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience with other cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) is a plus.

Just as important are curiosity, strong problem solving ability, and the motivation to continuously improve how technology is designed and delivered.
