Summary Generated by Built In

DVT is one of the top software development companies on the continent. Our software engineers are consulting on cutting-edge applications at top companies in South Africa, as well as consulting globally. You will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the most established developers in the country and globally with the latest technologies.

DVT is committed to continuously training our staff and we are very proud of our culture of learning, internal speaking and training at a variety of sponsored technical events across the AWS ecosystem.

We are looking for a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to join a strategic cloud transformation programme. This is a hands-on consulting role requiring deep AWS engineering expertise, strong technical leadership, and the ability to design and deliver production-grade cloud platforms.

This role is not suited to candidates whose experience has primarily involved deploying applications into AWS environments designed by others. We are specifically looking for an engineer who has personally designed, built, configured and operated AWS infrastructure in production and can confidently own architecture, security, networking and operational decisions.

You'll play a key role in shaping AWS architecture, driving CI/CD transformation, enabling Salesforce integrations, improving observability, and providing technical leadership across multiple workstreams.

AWS Cloud Engineering & Architecture

  • Own AWS solution architecture, platform design and environment configuration.

  • Design, build and operate AWS infrastructure supporting production workloads.

  • Make key decisions around AWS service selection, security, networking, scalability, resilience and operational management.

  • Drive infrastructure automation and standardisation using Infrastructure as Code.

  • Ensure cloud solutions are secure, maintainable and aligned to AWS best practices.

  • Lead technical design discussions and provide architectural guidance across delivery teams.

Salesforce ↔ AWS Integration

  • Design and build integrations between Salesforce and AWS-hosted systems.

  • Implement synchronous API integrations, EventBridge event-driven integrations and S3-based batch processing solutions.

  • Design secure, reliable and supportable integration patterns.

  • Extend Salesforce capabilities through AWS-native services where required.

CI/CD & DevSecOps

  • Lead the migration from GitFlow to trunk-based deployment and promotion patterns.

  • Design and implement secure CI/CD practices within GitLab.

  • Improve security scanning capabilities using Snyk and related tooling.

  • Drive DevSecOps best practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle.

Observability & Reliability

  • Establish and enhance observability across AWS and Salesforce platforms.

  • Implement monitoring, tracing, dashboards and alerting capabilities.

  • Leverage Amazon CloudWatch and recommend additional tooling where appropriate.

  • Improve operational visibility and platform reliability.

Technical Leadership

  • Lead and mentor engineers across the programme.

  • Establish technical standards, engineering practices and architectural governance.

  • Provide technical direction while remaining actively involved in delivery.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts to both engineering and business stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with cloud, CRM, platform and business teams to ensure successful delivery.

Google Cloud for Data Teams

  • Support the setup and configuration of Google Cloud environments used by the data teams.

  • Assist with IAM, project configuration and foundational infrastructure for BigQuery and Google Analytics workloads.

Required Experience and Skills

Must-have

  • 8+ years in infrastructure/cloud engineering, including 5+ years designing and operating production AWS.

  • Proven experience as an AWS Cloud Engineer, AWS Platform Engineer or AWS Solutions Architect.

  • Extensive experience designing, building and operating production AWS environments.

  • Demonstrable ownership of AWS infrastructure and architecture decisions.

  • Strong experience configuring and troubleshooting AWS services directly.

  • Experience making architectural, security and operational decisions for cloud platforms.

  • Strong knowledge of AWS networking, IAM, compute, storage, monitoring and security services.

  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform (preferred), CloudFormation or AWS CDK, including testing and validation of IAC.

  • Experience building integrations using services such as API Gateway, Lambda, EventBridge and S3.

  • Hands-on observability experience using CloudWatch, monitoring, tracing and alerting solutions.

  • Independent technical ownership and mentoring experience is a plus.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Advantageous

  • Salesforce integration experience, including Platform Events, Change Data Capture and REST/Bulk APIs.

  • Google Cloud Platform experience, particularly IAM, BigQuery and project setup.

  • Strong GitLab CI/CD experience, including trunk-based deployment approaches.

  • Experience with Snyk or similar SAST/SCA tooling.

  • AWS X-Ray, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Grafana or similar observability tooling.

  • AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect Associate, Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Engineer Professional.

  • Experience delivering large-scale cloud transformation or platform modernisation initiatives.

What will make you successful?

You'll stand out if you can demonstrate that you have:

  • Personally designed and built AWS infrastructure that is running in production today.

  • Made architectural decisions regarding security, networking, scalability and resilience.

  • Owned cloud platforms rather than simply consumed infrastructure built by others.

  • Driven Infrastructure as Code adoption and cloud automation initiatives.

  • Led technical teams while remaining hands-on.

  • The ability to clearly explain why specific AWS services and patterns were chosen and how they operate in practice.
