Job Description
Checkout.com's finance department is looking for a hands-on professional who can provide expert support to the Payments Team Senior Manager - APAC, having a proven track record to work with minimal day to day supervision.
The successful candidate will need to be an independent, diligent individual, able to stand out in an entrepreneurial environment. This role will play a crucial role in optimizing and managing the payment processes within our checkout systems. This individual will be responsible for ensuring smooth payment experiences for our customers, handling payment-related issues, and collaborating with various teams to enhance our payment infrastructure in Japan & APAC.
What you'll be doing
Processing and Reviewing Merchant Payments:
- Handle and process merchant payments across multiple local and regional banking platforms, including JPMorgan Chase.
- Review and verify payment transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and banking regulations.
- Maintain adherence to relevant regulations, including MAS Payment Services Act or HK Money Service Operator.
- Create and analyze reports on payment performance, transaction volumes, and other metrics, providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
Managing Prudential Treasury requirements for Japan Treasury:
- Ensuring appropriate funding levels and liquidity buffers are assessed and maintained at a legal entity level. This will involve working with the APAC regional leads to ensure appropriate global models are applied and a thorough review, approval and sign off processes is followed.
- Maintaining minimum capital as per regulations / internal requirements and helping with assessing it on an ongoing basis
Project Management and Participation:
- Actively contribute to and manage ongoing projects, including:
- Engage in the implementation of new treasury products in Japan working closely with relevant regional & global teams within and outside Treasury to ensure alignment with our payment strategies.
Bank Redundancy Strategy in Japan:
- Support the development and execution of strategies for bank redundancy, ensuring business continuity and minimizing risk in our payment operations.
System and Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements in payment processing and reconciliation procedures as a member of the APAC team
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance payment systems and streamline workflows.
- Collaborate with banks, and other partners to ensure smooth integration and operation of payment solutions.
- Use strong problem solving skills and a deep understanding of our systems to resolve queries with our customers in mind
- Developing a good understanding of other processes related to the Japan entity such as daily funds segregation process, scheme reconciliation process, etc and being able to address and related queries working closely with the regional APAC team performing the process.
- Assisting the APAC regional treasury team on prudential / operational topics. This will allow the candidate to work on regional Treasury topics and develop their treasury skills beyond Japan.
Qualifications
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with tight delivery schedules and prioritize accordingly
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Process-oriented and high level of attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and work collaboratively
- Demonstrated experience of working within the financial services industry
- Strong Treasury management skills and an understanding of prudential / regulatory requirements across Treasury
- High level of proficiency with MS Excel (Highly desirable)
- Process driven – You understand processes intuitively, are highly organised, and are constantly on the lookout to improve the way you work. You love tweaking things.
- Collaborative – You seek first to understand and then to be understood. You communicate your actions and intentions clearly - verbally as well as in written form.
- Proactive – You have a proactive attitude towards problems. You pay attention to details and think about the implications of what you are doing.
- Most importantly, a teammate - someone fully committed to their team and who takes pride in their work, both independently and as a collective.
- Fluent in English and Japanese

Hybrid Working Model:
All of our offices globally are onsite 3 times per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
