Position

Senior Associate – Database Administration

Role Summary

Responsible for the administration, maintenance, monitoring, automation, security, and high availability of PostgreSQL, Cassandra, and IBM Db2 databases in production environments. Provide L2/L3 operational support, perform proactive monitoring, ensure compliance with security standards, and collaborate with application teams to maintain database reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

PostgreSQL Database Administration

• Provide L2/L3 operational support for PostgreSQL production databases.
• Troubleshoot database issues and ensure high availability through replication.
• Configure and maintain replication environments.
• Manage SSL certificates, renewals, and certificate lifecycle.
• Plan and execute Disaster Recovery (DR) activities, including Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).
• Configure authentication mechanisms including Kerberos, LDAP, and SSL certificate-based authentication.
• Configure Kerberos authentication and provide secure read-only database access through pgAdmin.
• Manage database users, roles, and privileges based on application and business requirements.
• Perform performance analysis and query optimization using EXPLAIN ANALYZE.
• Execute regular database maintenance activities such as VACUUM, ANALYZE, and housekeeping tasks.
• Automate routine administrative tasks using custom shell scripts and Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS).
• Automate and generate database health check and production status reports.
• Monitor PostgreSQL environments using Dynatrace and respond to database alerts.
• Collaborate with application teams to resolve database-related issues and performance concerns.

Cassandra Database Administration

• Provide L2 support for Cassandra production environments.
• Troubleshoot database issues using system logs and application diagnostics.
• Manage production Cassandra clusters and ensure proper replication and quorum configurations.
• Perform SSL certificate lifecycle management to minimize service disruptions.
• Execute Cassandra version upgrades to address security vulnerabilities and maintain platform support.
• Automate operational tasks using UCD templates and Git repositories.
• Configure authentication mechanisms and manage database access according to client requirements.
• Utilize DSE OpsCenter for monitoring, repairs, compactions, backups, and cluster maintenance.
• Provision and manage database roles and permissions based on application requirements.
• Perform routine health checks and proactively monitor cluster health.

IBM Db2 Database Administration

• Provide administration and operational support for IBM Db2 LUW environments.
• Configure and maintain High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR) and SQL replication environments.
• Assist in configuring and maintaining Tivoli System Automation (TSA) for high availability.
• Perform Fix Pack upgrades to ensure security, compatibility, and system stability.
• Plan and execute database maintenance, backups, and restore activities.
• Support Disaster Recovery testing and recovery procedures.
• Troubleshoot database issues using tools such as db2diag, db2pd,expln,advis and db2support.
• Perform query tuning and SQL performance optimization based on application requirements.
• Manage transaction logs and database housekeeping activities.
• Handle SSL certificate renewals and database security compliance.
• Monitor database performance and alerts using Dynatrace.
• Manage database users, roles, and access permissions based on application requirements.

Common Responsibilities Across Database Platforms

• Maintain accurate asset information in ServiceNow (SNOW), ensuring zero stale or orphaned managed assets.
• Generate and support monthly Resource Utilization (RU) and currency reports.
• Coordinate with Configuration Management teams for effective database license management.
• Identify, assess, and remediate infrastructure and database security vulnerabilities.
• Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and evidence.
• Generate and maintain quarterly Access Control Lists (ACLs).
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, security, and client teams to ensure smooth database operations.
• Perform proactive monitoring, incident resolution, and root cause analysis.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Ensure compliance with organizational security, operational, and change management standards.
• Participate in production support, maintenance windows, and planned database changes.

• PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MS SQL, Oracle
• Public/private cloud management, especially migration from on-prem to cloud.

Patching

Preferred skills and experience
• Automation experience, especially IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
• Vulnerability management
• On prem AD FS (Active Directory Federation Services) with Microsoft Active Directory (AD), and/or Azure AD
